Destiny Hunter Budget challenge!

Hello again

I am working on a cosplay challenge set by a Facebook cosplay group for Arizona. The challenge is to complete a costume for under $10! It is a contest but I will definitely not be done by the deadline, however I wanted to still do the challenge to try and make a decent costume for under $10 supplies and found items. The rules stated that you can only spend $10 but you can use whatever you already had as well.


I decided to do a female Hunter from Destiny! (who else is enjoying the beta as much as I?)

I found a great pep file from someone at the 501st forums for the mask from the trailer. I built it up with cardstock that I already had and I'm going to try my hand at "Rondo"

I also had two ripped up old pants that I'm going to modify and sew together.

I had to spend $0.50 on elmers glue and luckily Walmart had it on sale for back to school! I brought home some boxes from work that I cut up to make some light armor. Then I put paper mache all over it and I'll use my leftover resin and maybe bondo if I have enough leftover to strengthen it. I'll use scrap elastic to fit them over my clothing (or maybe some fabric glue I had leftover)


The rest of it will come together from my closet and craft foam.

The only thing I can think of to purchase after that bottle of glue is spray paint and plastidip!
Any recommendations on inexpensive spray paints?

Do you guys think rondo would be too heavy for a mask like this? It doesn't wrap around my whole head... Should I try something else? I wanted it lightweight but still sturdy and convincingly solid. I was thinking maybe hot glue inside and a very thin layer of bondo outside to smooth out the edges?

I know that fiberglass resin can coat it and make it super sturdy and then bondo once that all is set but if you don't already have it, the resin can be quite expensive. another great way I've seen done was by Bill Doram over at Punished Props. Print the pep file and then transfer that to foam and use is as you would foam armor. Never tried it myself but is seems worth a try.

I didn't realize I could just bondo over cardstock and resin! Cool. I don't have enough money in my teeny tiny budget for foam. I will be buying some soon though, maybe to upgrade my armor after the challenge is over (hah)!

It cured lopsided with the rondo

someone told me I can heat rondo and kind of bend the dent out. possible?

ive heard that before as well never tried it but if you have a heat gun id say give it a shot nothing to lose really just make sure you dont start a fire and id be sure to wear a respirator while doing it
