Demonology 101: How to be a Succubus

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'm going to keep the heel on the shoe despite my original plans of hacking it off...simply because it'll be a bit safer. I'm still tempted to go heel-less though so...I think it'll be a last minute decision. Thankfully, the sold is hard acrylic so it is pretty solid and they're actually lace up boots above the ankle so there's some nice support in that way too.

Right now my horns are sculpted and drying... the only thing is that I made them from model magic ( since it dries SO lightweight ) and it tends to have lines in it where it's been squished or folded to roll out. I'm pretty much forbidden to work with fiberglass... are there any other recommendations for safe for a novice to use materials that I can coat them with to smooth them out before painting?

Here we usually use model magic to get a basic shape, cover that in a thin layer of cellulose mash (I forget the brand its sold under at craft stores[celluclay?], but its just boiled newspaper and elmers glue) to give it strength, and then a thin layer of paper clay to add detail. The paper clay is not very strong at all and will crack if you head butt someone, which is why its on a hard layer of cellulose mash.

Another product that might be cool to work with is called "Sculpt or Coat" which smells just like elmers, is much thicker, can be smoothed on or dipped into, and dries pretty strong.

So after the Succubus was put on the back burner in favor of Rufio and Hook... and then Sam and Quorra from Tron... it's back in action. I feel that it's the one I can get done on time, done well and still stand out in a crowd.

I got RIDICULOUSLY high ankle boots ( 4.5 inch platform, 8 inch heel ) that make me want to cry when I wear them because it's a long way down if I trip ( I'm just over 6' in them...NOT including horns ... haha ). And I'm working on the bootcovers/hooves to put on top in a removable fashion in case I want to use the boots for something in the future. The heel/platform is clear so I opted to keep them in tact instead of hacking them apart. Even though I got'em for a steal at $15, I like to get as much use out of everything as possible!

Wig is in, contacts are in, ears are in, corset is in ( in the middle of decorating )... should make some decent progress by the end of the week!

Or even by tonight. :D

Wings are on the to do list too, of course. Realized that they're going to be INCREDIBLY impractical in a club but made from scrap vinyl, cardboard and styrofoam...I'm not too concerned about it. I can always make a bigger, larger, better-er pair later on since I'm going to at least have to downsize them from my original plan. =\

I can't wait to see pictures.

Regarding the horns, I've also heard that you can sand down model magic to get rid of the lumpiness. I have a friend who has had success with that method and then coating it with a light coat of resin. I haven't tried it myself though.

The corset is coming along great! Though also not as I originally planned. I was going to make piping from ribbon so the pattern was more raised, now I'm just sewing it flat since I don't want to hand sew it on from the inside. :wacko But it still looks super pretty!

I'm aiming to get the boots, corset and bottoms done tomorrow, so some progress pics should be on the way! All I've tried so far is the head gear ( minus the still unattached horns ). Speaking of horns... I did fill the cracks with bondo and sand it down, they're still not entirely smooth but good enough. I don't want them to look TOO clean anyways. They need a glaze of red though...right now they're WAY too pink and purple... Travis said they look like they belong to the Cheshire cat. xD

Corset is well on its way... and taking WAY longer than I anticipated but... oh well. Isn't that always the case?

Anyone have tips for lightening skin? The leggings I'm wearing with it ( not gutsy enough to go Gaga and actually be pantsless... lol ) are noticeably lighter than my upper half since I just went on vacay in Florida last month. I think I'll just have to powder up or use a light light layer of cream makeup ( thin enough so that it dries ) but will probably have to do some tests to see HOW light I need to make it... I know even a thin layer, with flash can look seriously pale.

I'm keeping an eye on this thread just because I'm curious about the outcome. I've never seen a humanoid/horse-like ... thing ... in reality. Ever.

GOOD LUCK!! :)

PunitiveShoes/Catalogue/Palio pony play boot just throwing these out there if your doing "pony boots" you need to have a high a quality supportive boot cheap ones will destroy your ankle.

Ack... you all need to stop taunting me with that site/suggestion! These ( the ankle version ) are the ones that originally made me want to make the costume in the first place... but there's just no way I can spend that kind of money on them. Even the plain shoe version would be over $300 Cdn. X_x

I think the clear heels will be good in the end. And were much cheaper. And safer. I'm just hoping I can make the hooves look decent! I'm really pushing my deadline here... ergh....

I'm very curious myself as to how this will all turn out... LOL From the google research I've done, it seems a WoW Succubus costume can either be a total success or a complete flop... and there are very few successes. eek...

I missed the start of this thread, so I guess my suggestion is too late, but couldn't you just glue or use stitch-withery to attach trim or ribbon to the corset?(Until I read the second page and saw that you had already done the sewing, I figured that certain trims would give you the raised effect.)

I suppose I could've used glue... if I had sewn the ribbon into stuffed tubes or used piping. But I don't like gluing things that have to bend around my body. Hems and little detailing, sure, but on something form fitting I'm not sure how it would've held up. I don't know how well the fusible stuff would work either since if I ironed the piping/stuffed ribbon as I was planning on making, it would've ended up flat anyways...though I guess it would've been more raised than what it is now.

Ah well! At least it looks clean and tidy and shiny and sleek! In otherwords, though not as planned, I'm pretty happy with it. :D

And Jodo... ROFL!!! *shakes head*

I was thinking along the lines of Tacky Glue, which stays pretty flexible. The Stitch Witchery I was referring to comes in a bottle. I think I got the name wrong, but I found a listing on Amazon for something similar - Fabric Fusion and Liquid Stitch. They're washable, and should remain flexible.

Sooooooooooo after a LOT of procrastinating, and realization that my heart just isn't in this costume I decided to ditch it.

Then I decided to work on it again.

Then I realized I really have no experience or idea how to do the hooves or wings and have absolutely not enough time to do it well. Then I cried a bit because I wouldn't have something new for Halloween. Then I decided I'd do a quickie rush job and see what I could pull together. One week to go, but with a broken sewing machine atm, things are NOT going well over here.

I am a perfectionist and like to always do the best that I can do ... but for Halloween at a club, I can deal with half-assing a little bit here and there. If it turns out crappy, I deserve it since I procrastinated so SO bad this year...again relating back to the point that my heart just wasn't in anything.

I did the wings tonight and... wow... That's pretty much it. I had planned for SO much more but that's how it always goes... something takes about 10x longer than I had thought and then I'm in a time crunch.

It doesn't help that along with the broken machine, everything else is going wrong or unexpected.

Model magic cracked, so I filled it with bondo and sanded it but it still looks crappy painted. I had planned on epoxy-ing some stuff but my parents saw it and FREAKED OUT 'cause 'it's poison and you have to wear a mask and gloves and everything!' and are not letting me touch it. =_= I fought to the death but let's just say it didn't turn out my way and it was better to leave it at that. The corset I got is great for the price but makes me ABSOLUTELY flat and because of that, the top of it puckers... I think that can be fixed with some stuffing though. :lol The shoes I ordered are AMAZING but the platform height up front is making it insanely difficult to make it look like a hoof without it being the size of a bucket. The tights ( so I'm not running around in underwear ) are way lighter than my skintone, but were the closest I could get.

All this in combination with the fact that most of the stuff needed for my bf's Hook costume is stuck in customs ( again ... for no reason ... and have been for weeks ) and I've just lost the determination this season.

Anyways. That's the end of that rant.

So the wings I made with cardboard and styrofoam and pleather and hot glue. They are most definitely going to be a one-time-wear item since I'm pretty sure they won't survive the night. Which I'm actually OK with since wings the size I'd like are really, REALLY impractical for club wear. So these ones are tiny, mini, light, soft, bendy and ... well... replaceable baby wings. Perhaps in the future I'll grow some real ones. XD The horns that I intended on sewing on flopped right the heck over so I'm just going to bobby pin them in, which actually works surprisingly well. I had glued a felt circle to the bottom of each to sew through so when that didn't work I just slipped half the bobby pin through.

I really am having a hard time dealing with the wings... I know I said I don't care that they're crappy but of course part of me does... I think leading up to next weekend, I'll be painting a lot more detail and depth on them ( and probably covering the darker parts with little leather circles to make them look scaly ! ).

But I think the biggest problem now is that when I tried some of it on and took some pictures, I came to the realization that I don't look like a succubus. I look like a baby freakin' dragon. -_-

But I'm too excited about the black wig, horns, ears, contacts and fangs ( basically... just the head gear LOL ) that I've invested in hence the reason that I'm manically trying to throw it together at the last minute now.

Here's the current status:

( please excuse the brain leakage facial expression... I was trying to show my fangs and obviously didn't realize that they can't even be seen at that distance anyways... )

Definitely not a 'replica costume' but I think it'll be good for halloween. Maybe if I ever make it to BlizzCon I'll have somewhere to make some super wicked solid monster wings! Muahaha!

its freakin awesome. i high-five you from afar, madam!

Even with my baby-dragon wings!? Thank you!!!!

Experimenting with the hooves tonight. Hopefully getting this done by Sunday evening so I can work hardcore on Hook for the rest of the week. X_x
