Definitive List of District 9 Alien Guns

I moved the helmet posts over to the "helmet" thread, just to keep things on track. :)

TreehouseFX (Rob Swatton) on the Weta Forum posted these taken at the Weta Cave!

AWESOME shots, buddy!! I love these guns!!

-B89! :D

Just a caution. If production and shipping won't be happening until Q2, these display/promo pieces just about cannot be 100% representative of final production pieces. They're probably paint masters or just pure promos or something, right?

I'm not saying the final pieces will differ markedly, and the Grordbort pieces have GREAT finishing, but I won't be surprised if we lose the CNC tooling marks and seams, or if the final weathering might be a little bit simplified, or something.

As long as the base piece is screen-accurate tho, I'm a happy monkey.

I seriously doubt the production ones will look as good as the one in the photos above. But with only 200 being made, hopefully they will have time to make them look nice. :)

It's probably a good idea just to forget about it until they are finished. Might get all worked up like I did for the first prequel only to be let down. :lol

Thanks again for posting the Full HD screen shots rkpetersen :thumbsup

Agreed, I'd say the chances of the final product looking that good are exactly zip, but if Weta miraculously manages to deliver a quality product with a quality paintjob (that's what I'm most worried about) made in china that looks that good, I promise I'll build a little Weta-Shrine and post pictures of it here :lol

So I found out that the gun below (Alien Organic Retriever) wasn't originally designed as a gun. It was actually for taking samples inside other objects. For instance you could put it up against a cow it would retrieve the innards and deposit them in the clear container which is part of the backpack the guy below is wearing.

The 2 devices are connected with thick black tube/wires.

When I first saw it, I wanted to know what that clear container was! I hope the "Art of D9" book goes into detail about it! :thumbsup

Yeah. One of the other big 'guns' was also supposed to be a tool, a mining teleporter specifically.

On film though this thing behaves a lot like a heavy machinegun. :)

That would be cool if the BIG GUNS got made!! :thumbsup :love

That was the gun initially used in the scene with Wikus and the Warlord but it hwas too large and bulky to use. Tey changed it to the Sonic Force Gun instead.

FB, I can't see it happening. They'd have to cost into four figures, and how many people would buy something that was barely used on screen? People aren't even buying the AR. :(

Lord, do I want one, though. Put it in a coffee table. :)

I merged a few pics together to complete what the backpack looks like.

I also found the scene where the mini assault rifle was used! I thought it wasn't in the movie but I was told it was used. I hope they make that one next!!
I think the AR will sell out. The Gas Projector Sold Out and the AR is cooler than that!

Oh WELL DONE with the backpack! Finally a clear idea of what it looks like. Nice! Also the links. Helmet art...I wet 'em! JOB VARIANTS - 'engineer' and '??', oh my god, I'm going to want more than one...I MUST HAVE PRAWN HELMETS! hem hem.

The mini AR is in the background of the MNU lab test shots. Did you find it elsewhere too?

Again, it's another casualty of editing. It's seen briefly in the background and the testing scenes weren't used. And as a cut-down AR, is it something that even exists as a mould, or was it literally just a bash of an AR casting?

If there's no specific mini-AR mould then they'd either have to take a mould off an existing (one-off) prop, or recreate it from a new AR casting.

Taking all this into consideration, I can't see how it's a contender.

(Weta, is my reverse psychology working?) :D
