I’ve had some time to wear and study the rings. I’ll get some photos in the daytime.
Meanwhile, here are some preliminary notes:
*The tolerances on some of the parts were a bit tight when assembling them. Gonna have to loosen them up a bit.
*I’m exceptionally pleased with the Kyle-style V2. The ribbed band turned out perfectly. And, since this is also a stand-in for the regular V2 (with the only differences being the tri-band and the flat gem), it serves as a good proof-of-concept for that version, as well.
Frankly, I’d say the V2 is very close to final, now. The symbol size, thickness, and overall aesthetic are right around where there should be. MAYBE the symbol could be bumped down from 24mm to 23mm, but that doesn’t really seem necessary, unless I go for a very slightly more streamlined and realistic look. The symbol size has always been tricky business, since reducing the length of course also shrinks the symbol proportionately, which affects the overall look.
Also…
*As noted, I’ve been trying to keep the symbols on the V2 and V3 the same size. That said, unlike the afforementioned Kyle V2, the V3 still seems a little too chunky and oversized. The previous 22mm print from many months ago seemed more spot-on, whereas the 22mm V2 seemed too small.
Of course, a part of that may also come from the height added to make the face a full 5mm from the finger-hole. The other rings all look solid with a 5mm height.
I need some time to wear them and think on it, but the logical conclusion is that 23mm would be a happy middleground for both designs.
*The REBIRTH also seems close to final, now. Very pleased with the overall shape and size. Although I may end up bumping the disc back up from 19mm to 20mm, both to be more comic-accurate and also to make the taper of the band slightly more pronounced.
*I’m also very pleased with the Patrick Gleason design. As with the Kyle ring, the 24mm symbol seems to be spot-on. And the chamfered face is really subtle and slick. Flattening the gem somewhat so it didn’t peek out of the gem socket was also a good choice. Of course, printing this one was more for fun, than anything.
