Deathstroke, Arrow Season 2

I got a little bit more done...

Both shins have their knees and orange armor parts. I started doing something that's not on the originals... sewing down the carbon fiber around the details. when I put it on, it was stretched neatly around the corners. Over time it lets go and looks much less sharp (you can see this on the screen suit too). I decided I wanted mine tight, so I'm sewing along the edges. That's fun. Really.

After a nice vacation, I started working on the suit again.

Did a test pull of the helmet back and assembled one to see how it would fit:

I'm in the process of painting it up now.

I cut the vent slots a little wide this time, but it's still a prototype :)

I ordered the black plastic for the final, finished copy.

I don't recall seeing it in your thread, but what base mask did you use for the Mirakuru army members?

It's a pretty generic airsoft mask... I'm not sure if there's really even an official manufacturer. If you browse "airsoft mask" on ebay you'll see a bunch. I don't think I'm supposed to post live auction links or I'd share one directly.

First of the back armor pieces is in!

I ended up not using the vac formed ones I originally made. While the chest panels sit nice and flat, the back ones needed to curve a bit, and ABS isn't going to do that. This one is EVA foam covered in the carbon fiber stuff.

I cut out the foam, and glued to to a piece of vinyl about 1/2" bigger than the foam. Put down the carbon cloth, then sewed that into the vest, sandwiching the foam between the vinyl and carbon fiber.

Sadly I'm blocked right now by lack of blue fiber fabric. I screwed up enough on other parts that I ran out. I ordered more 2 weeks ago, but slow shipping is slow. So, Deathstroke will have just that 1 piece of armor on his back for now.

I got my new helmet finished:

Matte black and gloss orange. I'm pretty happy with how that came out.

A few hours before the convention I was going to, I made a new leather eye patch:

I got my "off duty Slade" outfit together well enough to wear:

And even picked up a better sword:

After looking back at this pic over and over:

I finally took the plunge and ordered one of these:

Hopefully it looks as much in person as what you can see in that screen cap!

Helmet looks awesome! You thinking if doing a run of them? I forget, did you do it one or two pieces?

I did it in 2 pieces, vacuum formed plastic so it's super light and rigid. I may do a small run of kits. I'm selling a finished one in the junkyard now :)

I got my scary hissatsu knife. I'd say that I'm super confident that's the right one for the back. And it is a scary knife! Soon to be a not scary rubber knife... I'll be molding this and casting one in rubber.

If casting multiple, I'd love a copy, Cap'n Rex!

Wonder if there's a way to get just the sheath, then. Hrmm.

I've settled on casting the sheath+knife as a single piece. SUPER con-safe, and no risk of someone pulling the rubber knife out of my sheath at a con. I'll let you know when it is done... should be next week :)

I finished my back armor:

Got the grenades:

Carbon Fiber wrapped my holster:

And got the suspender straps on the vest updated to be more accurate (not the right carabiners, but closer than the no carabiners I had before):

Today I ordered the stuff to make new grenade holsters (the off the shelf ones I got are much too large!), and ordered the Cobra buckles. Happily I get paid twice this week, so I think I might bite the bullet and get all 14 remaining carabiners.

Great stuff! I'm following this and the Official DS 2.0 thread or whatever.

This site is giving me a lot of great ideas. I'm about to start my own version of the costume this weekend and I need to work fast :)

Thanks for all the hard work and giving me a head start on ideas.

You can do it! My first pass came together in a couple of weeks (with a couple of months and counting of tuning!)

I started in on the drop leg ammo holster this morning:

EVA foam, vinyl, bias tape, webbing, elastic, buckles and my top 2 friends on this costume: blue carbon fiber and orange thread! If only there were some carabiners on this part!

The leg armor was EVA foam + vinyl + carbon fiber.

The mag holder was vac formed out of black ABS. The forms were simple wood blocks, nothing fancy. The top flaps are leather.

Here is today's success story... molding the Hissatsu knife was a smashing success. The one on the right is my con-safe prop. It's all 1 piece, no knife to draw. That's straight out of the mold, no cleanup at all:

I also swapped in my Cobra buckles, and did a bunch of tune-ups to the bandolier.

The 40mm grenade holders I got were WAY too big. I'm thinking the ones he had were custom... I can't find anything off the shelf that is so small. So, I got some cordura, webbing and velcro and made my own.

The weight of them pulled the bandolier down, so I reinforced it. The main body is 2" webbing. I doubled it up, stitching down both edges. In the pocket that created, I inserted a strip of black ABS to help keep it rigid. Once it's all strapped up tight the whole thing sits perfectly.

The grenades seem to want to slip out if I lean over too far forward (like to pick up something I drop). I may end up securing them to the bandolier somehow. I think that might make convention security people happier too.

I've gotta say... this suit is getting heavy!
