Just as an addendum, having taught myself to photo-etch all these years later as part of my T2 Harley build, I redid the license plates. I burnished some aluminium foil over a brass photo etch of the L-Plate to get the pressed lettering effect, then printed a home-made decal applied with micro-sol over the plate. Much better than the hand-cut lettering on the original attempt at making the plates.
