I'm in the process of making one of the red panels seen adorning the walls of the Death Star detention block and various random hallways. I sourced the proper Paterson contact proof printer and have 3D modeled and printed the three cooling-pipe-like tubes.

The Paterson bit is easy enough to buy, but it's a bit of a chore to remove the foam and the glue that holds it down to expose the underlying structure as seen on the prop, so the thought occurred to me to mold the original before I go any farther with this. Then the though occurred that as long as I'm doing that I might as well mold the tubes as well so I don't have to spend a dozen hours again some day to print new ones in case my friends wanted to take a crack at this.

And so that has now progressed to asking here if there would be any interest in a 'kit' of sorts consisting of resin cast copies of the base panel and the three tubes. You'd have to paint and supply your own panel lights (those would NOT be included). I'd ask $125 plus shipping to cover my time and materials. Probably a limited run of no more than 10 or so and not less than 5 (otherwise not worth the time and effort).

Chime in and we'll see if this might run...

That's cool :)
And the good news is, my next batch of lights should be ready next month. Good timing :)

I´m in !!!
Please remind...the middle Pipe is a little bit conical on the outside. I there a plexiglass layer over the whole panel?

I modeled the pipes as I see them in the hero shot above, from the detention block scene, with a simple cylindrical shape with a bit of a 'flange' at both ends. I know that various other versions of this panel seen in the various hallway scenes show different types of pipes, some with a conical-like step down, and with different arrangements of pipes. I'll leave those variants to others...

It'd sure be nice to find the original found parts for these. I'm betting on some sort of aircraft engine related piping, probably something that Roger found in the junkyard with the other aircraft bits...

they look like big needle bearing, haven't had the time to research those parts though

Actually, I used to sell bearings and the first thought I had when I saw the pic was a journal roller bearing. Only thing is that it is abnormal to have the flanges out past the rolling elements. Here's a pic.

Do these come with or are usually installed in or sheathed in some sort of outer tube? That would then explain the smooth outer surface and maybe the front and back slighty-larger-diameter lip or flange...

I'd be really interested in one set, just need to consider approximate shipping to Romania first please.

Okay, so, I'm not seeing hugely enthusiastic response on this in enough numbers to really motivate me to make all the molds for this. So, with apologies to those of you who are interested I think I'm going to just move on and use my parts to finish off this prop replica for myself.

As a consolation prize of sorts I did produce a 3D file of the Paterson panel made from digital caliper measurements from the original - so it's a very faithful reproduction. I'm happy to share that file and the files for the tubes to anyone who might want to 3D print their own copies:

Granted, you can probably just buy an original for the cost and effort to print it and clean it up. Just PM me here and I'll send those files to you. If you'd like to Paypal some funds to me for that for whatever you think is fair that'd be appreciated.

Dan, give it a week or so.

It's only been 4 days, and I'm sure that as more people see this they will be interested, just like I am:)

Anyone know where to source the 3 lights/buttons?
hey, I have been offering those for the past couple years. my last run should be ready next month :)

Thanks. I might be in for 3 lights, if this run goes as planned.
