I'm sure you'll find help here! This place IS a DIY site! And a damn good one if I do say so my damn self.
For Darth Vader stuff, you'll have to go to the 'Popular Franchises' menu to the 'Star Wars Costumes and Props' section. Once there, you can use the search to find all sorts of Vader goodness.
At 6'7", you're going to make one impressive Vader!

For learning the DIY of Vader the best option is to search/browse threads on the RPF.
You'll get to see and read other people's builds and seeing what parts they use (what vendor) you'll get a behind-the-scenes look at what they are doing and learn if those parts are good for your build.
What type of budget are you on? A tight budget, or is money okay? Depending on money there is a wide berth of vendors to pick from.
