Darth Vader Breathing Device

Hey guys,

I wanted to add some movie quotes and the breathing sounds to my Vader display. I would love to have it with a motion sensor so it comes on when somebody walks by.

I've looked around on the net and found this...

I've also seen one for a couple of bucks less. Anyone have experience with this one? Anyone have ideas how to hook it up with a motion sensor?

Wayne....that thing is junk. You'd be better off with an MP3 player and some good micro speakers. You could easily hook it up to a motion sensor.

So the motion sensor just hooks up to the MP3 player...or do I need some type of interface? You would think that I would know this stuff having built an R2 :lol

Wayne,

Since you're the R2 building master, you know how to rig stuff up. Considering you may not want to modify your MP3 player (opening it up and modifying it), I'd suggest using the motion sensor to trigger a small solenoid which pushes the play/pause button.

Maybe have the sensor trigger a dual-timer circuit? First pulse triggers the solenoid to push the play button, and after a short timer delay, it fires again to press pause?

I just wired a Darth Vader halloween costume accesory (hold a button...Vader breathing sound plays) to a chunk of a kids dance mat game.

Step in front of Vader he breaths.

Easy

Another idea is to get a hold of a box used for a standee. You can get some that you can record your own phrase into. They are motion sensing.

Thats what I use for my Yoda, Ewok and will use for my Threepio. Yo are limited to only one phrase you record...but Vader breathing would work.

I found I had to widen the hole in front of the motion sensor..works good. Only problem is they all go off when the lights go on or off.

They do have standees that have various phrases from Vader that play randomly, but they would not sell those to me without the standee due to licensing reasons.

Ebay part #180172423350 is a talking standee...just use the motion sensor/sound box. Ok..I'm done now.

I just hooked up an mp3 player with recorded breathing and quotes to some amplified pc speakers that are tucked away on the vader mannequinn. They are pretty bassey.
