Hi all, :cool

Does anyone have any decent shots of Darth Maul's Electrobinoculars they could maybe share with me? :thumbsup

Thanks in advance.

I am building the prop as we speak. I just got the 1999 toy and using it as a very loose size guide.

Thanks!

I've got one of the toys as well. It has the big round dish thing on the top tho. I had thought about casting it and then molding two of them to put back to back. Any thoughts on that?

I would just mod the toy. I am just using it as a rough guide and looking for parts for a new sculpt. A lot of it is going to be fabricated as the known parts are slim. It appears that a coffee mug/thermos was use for the center. A couple air fixtures, various knobs, and other grebles round out the "known" pieces. I believe it would be more trouble to recast than to build another but that is me and I like doing those things. Plus the toys are not the hard to find and really off scale wise. I just got 2 of the probe droids for 35 shipped. I will keep adding as I find things and make progress.

Thanks!

Greg

Hi Greg, :cool

Thanks very much for the images, they are most useful, have you seen any of the underside?

Any idea roughly just how far off the toys are from the original as I had a similar idea to AlpineDM, of modding the toy into something a bit more accurate.

BTW have you worked out what sort of diameter the original mug/thermos piece was since I guess getting the right size for that would give a good start on the rest of the Electronocs ?

Look forward to seeing how you get on with your build?

Thanks again for the images.

Off hand I would say quite narrow and a little bit shorter. I plan on doing a comparison tomorrow when I take screen grabs from the DVD. Take a look at the parts of Star Wars.

I will also start my sith probe droid project tomorrow. The postman just delivered 2 of the toy mint in box.:thumbsup

Thanks!

Hi Greg, :cool

Thanks for your insights, I've been taking some screen shots from the DVD too but there isn't anything really clear as far as I can see so far. The parts of Star Wars is useful but still doesn't give any specifics on sizes really. The best way to work it out I think will be taking the sizings from DM's hands holding the Electrobinocs then taking a best guess from there.

I now have a Darth Maul Electrobinocs toy on the way so I guess I'll do the same as you and see what I can get from that and take it from there.

Awesome on the sith probe droids, love to see final result!

Hi Greg, :cool

Had a bit of a brainwave in working out the sizings on this project. I did a little research and apparently the normal IPD ( Interpuppillary distance) is around 65mm for an average adult male, so that gives us a centre width for the lenses on the EB's of 65mm. This also gives a diameter of around 65mm for the "thermos" section since the edge of this lines up with the centre of the lenses, also (with a little working out using the image as a basis) this gives a complete EB width of around 163mm.

I've had a look around our local stores and the smallest size of thermos flask is coincidentally almost exactly 65mm.

WDYT it gives us a starting point at least?:eek
