Daredevil Billy Clubs

First Attempt

I was reading a few daredevil comics the other day and on a whim decided to build some DD billy clubs. On a budget of course.
One trip to the hardware store (plumbing section), some cuting, sanding, glueing and painting later I had what I now call my first prototype.

Using a section of pvc pipe and a few different connection pieces I came up with a basic 3 stage set of clubs
basic fighting sticks, nunchuck mode, & staff. All modes are with the same sticks using different steps to attach and seperate the clubs

gave them a quick coat of red and silver paint for a movie-esk look.

Second Attempt

Upon finishing this build I had a few thoughts on ways to improve on this little project.

Firstly I kind of wanted a more comic style version than movie version, so the silver tips would have to go.
Also my current build had one club with a short line inside for the nunchuck mode and the second club was just a hollow tube, so that was just wasted space.
This time I would be going for a more traditional comicbook style cane to clubs.

Mine obviosly wouldn't be able to straighten out to a straight stick like the comic unfortunately.

So back to the hardware store. And about $20 later.

Some cutting and test assembly...

Had to round down the parts with the dremmel (the red brown on the fittings is some primer stuff I used to get the printed words off the pipe)

i used the proper pipe fitting glue used for pvc pipes, I had a pot of it left over from making a pvc pipe dummy a while back.

A lick of paint later and....

Went for an all red look this time. Still having trouble with the long line, will have to work on making it retractable if I ever try make attempt 3.
its all one self contained unit, not bad for about 2hours work and about$30 in parts.

In comics, the clubs start as a cane, can snap into two separate escrima sticks AND can be nunchuks (that can extend up to "grappling hook" distance).

The more I think about it, the more ridiculous that is.

So I've got some ideas for upgrades on this!

That said, I could see doing the following:
Piece 1: Cane topper.
Piece 2: First shaft.
Piece 3: First/Second shaft topper.
Piece 4: Second shaft.

The second shaft would have a cable feed from it with a seatbelt-like retraction design, so it doesn't spool everything out automatically or pull it back in automatically.
The first/second shaft topper would be where the cable is attached from inside the second shaft, so when the second shaft is topped with it, it's just a fighting stick instead. But if you connect the first shaft to it, the sticks are now cabled together. And then of course you connect the cane handle to make it a grappling hook, or you just connect them all and you're back to a cane.

Major problem would be in securing the topper to the first-shaft to make sure it has draw strength. I could see a pinning system being the most secure and modular.
