Dan Dare( 2000AD).

I've been a fan of the 2000ad comic incarnation of Dan Dare, for many years. The early stories of "The lost Worlds" were fantastic. Every week was a new adventure, with fantastic art by the likes of Dave Gibbons, Bryan Talbot etc. The mainstay of the story was Dare's spacecraft-the "Spacefort". I've craved a spacefort since those heady days(1977), but it is only now, with the advent of computer modelling and 3d printers, that this dream has become reality. Here are some pictures.
As this is a work in progress, there is still a great deal to be done. Gaps need filled, cannons need printed, paintwork and panelling have to be added...

Wow - you hit me square in the childhood.

I remember a cut-away drawing done of that ship - possibly in one of the annuals. I look forward to seeing how this turns out!

Been filling and priming today. Lots of sanding over the next few weeks.

Lots of sanding today,plus a test fit of two of the main guns. Another coat of filler primer tomorrow. Hopefully that coat will be the last to sand. The fingers are sore here...[emoji3]

I had never heard of Dan Dare before, and now I know what the hell they were referring to in that line from Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine!

There were some variations between the artists and the ship became bulkier as the series went on. I've aimed for the early incarnation,as shown here.

To be honest, it was never a great favourite of mine, but as a 3D model, I'm liking it more.
