Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit [pix on both pages]

So,...I've seen several Tron version helmets out there. I have commissioned one myself from an eBay seller. My questions is, does anyone have a good source for the white suits they were in the movie? I am currently inquiring with several people for possible commission, but looks like I might have to make it myself. Anyone have any good reference pictures from the movie?

This is Medicom's figure which is licensed so I assume this is based on the actual costumes from the movie. Thoughts?

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

Other than the behind the scenes video that's floating around there is not much more out there for references at this time other than what you already have posted here already.

Good luck with your outfit!

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

from what i remember the footwear they wore for these suits were a special custom pair of Adidas Stan Smiths

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

So...can anyone figure out how many LED's are in Guy's visor? I counted 6 going vertical. But how many horizontal? I commissioned a Guy helmet and I got it today....but to my disappointment... they used an EL-Tape and not LED. Any help?

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

Im guessing around 144. looks like half a row is 12 so times 2 for a whole row times six rows.

Well...I'm not 100% happy with it. For what I paid...I did expected a bit more. I will post detailed shots when I get a chance to take them. The helmet was advertised as having LEDs which turned out to be an EL-Strip. The visor is vac-formed from a thin plastic, the same as the plastic on packaging for toys. The EL-Strip's power source also emits a high pitch whine which is not very fun when its right next to your ears! I will need to make some modifications as This sculpt is a regular Guy helmet just painted in the Tron colors with the Tron style visor lighting.

I know you said you commissioned this helmet in a previous post, but that helmet looks a like one that was on eBay recently, right down the the El-Strip. Is it one and the same?

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

Not the same helmet...but the same maker. I contacted them after I lost the auction and commissioned it.

Hes making them you say?

I'm probably going to open a can of worms here, but I wonder if the guy in question is recasting Volpin's helmet. Volpin and I actually discussed via e-mails about the similarities between the eBay helmet and his own, and we came to the conclusion that it was probably one of his casts, but it was hard to tell by the photos. We didn't think of the possibility it was a recast though.

I know the angle is all wrong, but here is a pic to compare the proportions of the ear to my Volpin helmet to your helmet.

I'm sure Volpin will chime in and add his input.

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

I can take some better pix. The guy also sent me his WIP pix which was mostly the molding process. But the 1st pic he sent looked like the helmet was made from wax. I'll post pix with his permission.

More pics would help, but I really hope I am wrong!

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

A straight on shot, profile shot, and 3/4 view shot taken with a camera from 6 feet away zoomed in to frame it closer should be all us nerdy Daft Punk supersleuths need to put this debate to bed.

...We really have no life. :lol

I don't have a 6 inch ruler, so I had to take these in the air.

In the first pic I measured the wrong ear on my helmet, and in the second pic the angle insn't exactly the same, but...

Unfortunately I think the photos speak for themselves.

Re: Daft Punk: Tron Version Suit

WOW. So someone is recasting Volpin's work. I think I need to send Volpin some information. I noticed another similarity. Look at the lines. The one 2nd to the bottom right. The bend has a small hole drilled where the lines aren't as thick. I don't have photoshop right now otherwise I'd enhance the pic. Do you see what I'm talking about?
