Customized Fertility Idol to Hero version

I bought an unpainted Idol off eBay by cool models a few years back so I’m already familiar with its size and details. I put it side by side with Relic Makers Idol and it was pretty close. Not nearly as good but a nice workable piece. I decided to get another one, but this time customize it.

I bought some doll eyes and the kit. Took a coping saw to her and here’s my progress so far.
The plan is to gild it with gold flake after I finish the modification.

Also decided to keep track of the financials on this one.
So far, I'm at 50 dollars plus shipping for the Idol and Eyes
Bags of gold flakes for the guiding are 3 dollars each-bought 3 but I'll post how many I actually used when complete.
glue is about 3 dollars as well.

The bonus was seeing the doll eyes having the ability to take apart, so I don’t have to dig out more of the Idol than needed. I used a couple different attachments to the Dremel to shape and used a rounded polishing stone to help smooth out the radius.
Still have to clean out the sides of the eyes but I’m really liking the results so far.

Finished cleaning out eyes, glued them in place and glued the face back together. You can see some gold around the eyes. I did this to edge them for later on finishing purposes. Also tried my hand at beginning the gilding process on the back as a test area. Still a lot of clean up but making some headway here.

Sanding and cleaning stages. First, I gave her eyes and then covered them up.
Now she’s one eyes Willy. Tape was in the way so I pulled it off.
Hopefully this is the last coat of body filler--Excited to start gilding.

Gilded up with gold flakes. I’m going to weather and age her for sure. Not too bad for brushing on gold sheets

Think I’m good now. Not too bad for my first attempt at gilding. I have her sitting on a shelf drying from the clear coat. The results from gilding don’t show up as much as gold but it’s definitely more brilliant than gold spray paint. Also gives it more character. :p

Custom Idol needs a custom base.
Using a mixing container from Home Depot. I shot some drywall repair textures to the container to give a real look to the stone. Then used some stone making kit but truth be told it’s nothing more than concrete mix . Dumped in the container and letting it dry for the night. Went with the mixing container because it’s also rounded on the edges and only a couple dollars. I’m just going to cut it open if the stone doesn’t pop out on its own

Thanks for posting the whole process! Turned out really nice, making the hero version was pretty ambitious but it was worth it.
