Custom Morphsuit-type for Ironman?

I am building a pep ironman armour and was tirn between red or black under suit, but after seeing this ive been inspired to do more. My plan is black undersuit, then head down the fabric shop for variousr greys and metallic fabrics, eyelets, zippers etc and just add them in the gaps. Will be quite fun me thinks

Samurai169, I have a few reference pictures from which I was planning to make my elbows. it uses the method you referred to, and it looked slick on the suit I saw. Here's a close-up of the piece, and you can barely tell, but the suit here uses this method, I think.

That is exactly what I was talking about. Thanks

This is all great stuff. I like many others had pondered detailing a shirt, specifically for the under arm area which is so difficult to cover up and also retain full movement and some cooling!

I do wonder though why we bother to wear an entire under suit when really the only gaps are at certain strategic points. It would surely make more sense to just have those pieces of suit incorporated into the armor where the gaps are?

Having said that, at the last event I attended, I wore only 'shorts' as my undergarment, and another Iron Man had a full top and bottom compression gear (cooling compression gear). Both of us seemed equally comfortable, so perhaps the suits dont make that much difference?

I will probably experiment with hand drawing/glueing some elements onto a metallic fabric to put around the underarms. This is the only part of my suit where skin can show.

Re: Re: Custom Morphsuit-type for Ironman?

I would be more interested in like an under Armor type shirt for sup $100... More realistically, sub $50. The shirt us the most important part.

So Elderdon sent me an email and I would like to start an interest thread in the jy with some art. Dye sub is expensive and a ***** to sew, so I cant do suit for under 300 but I may be able to trim it down if we do just a shirt. Lets see where the thread leads. I promise you you wont be able to do ready to wear sub dye for less.

I would be interested pending price and pictures. :popcorn

I think this is a great idea! I plan to do some kind of t-shirt or longsleeve to wear under my Iron Man foam armor. (or perhaps a full body dye sub style of undersuit). I have Photoshop but no templates. If someone could point me to a good template, i'll try to put something togehter.

cheers, Gonzo

i'm currently making a mk7 and once it's finished will mold latex parts and glue to the inside of bicep fore arm and also for the groin area and back of knees as opposed to doing the full undersuit as i like my morph suit the way it is

there are a lot reference pics out there...the main question is how detailed should it be? do we need only the parts to fill the gaps of the armor or should we go the overkill route an design a suit with all the details like endoskeleton, servos, electronics and cables etc...

cheers, gonzo

I think both would be very cool options however that being said we only truly need the gaps filled. Also since every suit and body type are different those sections should be oversized to allow for different sized gaps.

My approach to this: I bought some ski underwear and i use modeling paste to create the desired 3D effects of an endoskeleton onto the underwear. I do this only in places where it is visible. When the paste dries it is still flexible so you can use it in joint regions just as well. Works great so far.

Update: I'm working on a design for a dye sub suit, but am only able to do so sporadically. I'll keep posting at milestones.

If anyone is interested, a friend and I are making custom puff painted suits for use as Iron Man under suits.

Started with the idea to make one for my Mark 42, but we decided that if there was some interest we might take some commissions.

That's pretty cool. Reminds me of C3PO without his covers on. :D

Here are some pics of the suit in action :)

Worked really well and got a lot of complements on attention to detail.
