Custom helmet project. (New pics 9/23)

So with Halloween around the corner, i wanted to make my wife and me some cool new costumes (unrelated to Star Wars). It would need to have a helmet, so i went looking through stacks of old magazines and books just to soak up ideas. My next step was to track down a cheap MX helmet. Then the styrene and Bondo. Here we go.......

Next was the visor thing.......

And the visor hinge. I made one from cardboard to use as a template for the real deal.

Next, i drew vents onto the visor, and cut on the lines to recess the vent into the visor. Then styrene strips were added to build in the "walls" of the vents.

The front of the helmet had to be reworked as well. I used styrene and Bondo for that.

And here is where im at, so far. I think, the hardest work is done. Now comes the time consuming part of detailing. Not sure on where im gonna go from here, but then again, i wasnt sure of what this was gonna be when i started it.

Your work is always inspiring Andy! This helmet reminds of some of the Robotechish type of Japanese anime pilot's helmet. Will be watching this thread with great interest.

Thanks guys.

Got more done today. The most noticeable amount of work has gone into the interior of the helmet, but i also did some tweaking in other places as well.

I was also thinking about inventing a helmet from scratch, the motocross helmet is a good idea for a start.

Hey Evo...again nice work!! I always dig your work, specially how you did your other Pilot helmet...AWESOME!!

HHMMM...hard to say but It does look like a Robotech style helmet...but I don't recall a full face helmet?

I just basically stared at the helmet for a few minutes and started adding pieces to it in my mind, then mocked them up with cardboard, to get an idea on scale for all the parts. now that the major transformation of the helmet is done, i'll start adding the fine details like vents and greeblies. Here are the latest pics.......

I was gonna leave the eye area of the helmet open, but now im thinking of sealing it and adding something along the lines of "helghast" eyes to it. Kinda like this.....
