Custom hardware saber

Just finished this up a few days ago.

It started out as a muffler for an RC airplane, the emitter is also an RC airplane part. Part of an old flashlight, a bevel gear I found at work, some vinyl string, some misc. bits and there you go. All metal with a really nice heft to it. :)

Very cool and unique, the only part that stand out from the rest as "hardware" is the perforated strip. Kinda looks out of place to me. But the saber is great, love the pommel gear.

I added the perforated strip to break it up a bit, I thought it was too "plain jane" otherwise.

I understand what you mean, but it does stand out a bit much. Is there any way to move it forward, mounting it to resemble a Yoda style emitter shroud? I think the strength of the saber is it's clean lines, and while the piece does add a bit of visual interest, it clashes with the design rather than enhancing it.

The bevel gear looks really good, too. What is it used for besides cool lightsaber parts?

Removing it may be a problem as it is attached with JB weld and superglue. I'm sure I can remove it, but not without causing some damage...probably nothing that can't be buffed out.

So the majority think it would look better if the perforated piece is moved up onto the emitter, partially encircling it and sticking up...like a shield?

DRBJR- the gear is used to drive tri-panel billboards, we've got a ton of them in our junk pile.

Frankly I love it because it has that piece that makes it look odd.

It really depends (to me) which time period it is..prequel or New Hope.
If you want prequel you want clean sleek lines, if later New Hope era, then junk here and there.

Well, it has a covertec-ish belt attachment on the side, so I guess somewhere between the two? I was going to add a d-ring but couldn't think of a way to do it without ruining the overall design.

That pommel looks really good, and like you, I think having a good heft to a saber is important. Very cool!

Thank you! I try to make my custom sabers with all metal and black plastic parts for this reason...and I also don't have to worry about paint chipping.
