Cursed Projects

I was reading this from my mobile phone without my glasses the other day and was about to reply about my "current" project. I didn't see the word "cursed" until I found my glasses. Oh well -- all my projects (except for that Cetacean) seem cursed of not seeing the finish line -- either because of my losing interest before it's done t or because of some hurdle I couldn't overcome. That LLRV for instance has some trusses I couldn't find good reference photos of. Same thing with that Hasbro Falcon rectenna. (Speaking of which somehow Solo's death had a big impact on my interest in building Falcons -- couldn't figure out why). Really I should try to keep away from complex buiilds I don't know how to execute. That way I don't get too disappointed and add more to my unfinished cursed projects.

PS. Falcons too remain cursed projects for me until I could master the art of painting them. That elusive ILM painting method will remain elusive for me. I envy all your work.

The diecast XK8 is from Maisto 1/24 scale and was on ebay. i got a silver one, but there's a green one there now.
the e-type looks complex, but it isn't really. but it is fragile, very fragile. it's currently only got one wheel, the other three broke off in my last move.

Problem I had (have) with the Corvette and Jag kits are all the chrome trim.

I used small dabs of white glue, and limited myself to just one per day. Image leaning the 'Vette just right to barely balance the door mirror while the tiny drop of white glue dries. CA is less forgiving, and I am currently "in the market" for a new brand of CA, and am out at home (and my local supplier carries a brand I don't prefer).

Finished this off...

Salvaged it as best I can. Not a show winner, and you can see its warts, but on the shelf it will be fine...

Lots of paint leaks...

Most cleaned up off the cured undercoat ok with thinner but some areas I'm just gonna have to sa "ef it" and brush on some white. My sanding of the damaged red paint helped, but I was lazy and didn't sand perfectly. I'd say an overall 60%-75% improvement, which is good enough for me for this project.

I've heard putty is a good source for masking. I dont know how it would hold up against can spray but it works very well with multiple light coats of the airbrush.

Jump to the 16:00 mark for the putty example

To the folks having issues with paint. Rustoleum is not great paint for model making unless you are only going ONE color or said model is a custom with metal/wood. I have used various paints on plastic models and they all seem to eff up when trying to do custom graphics or what not. For some reason , even paints from the same "line" , have horrible reactions with each other. I see it a lot in the auto body field where some yahoo uses spray bomb primers, claims they were shot from a gun then once prepped and paint laid down it reacts and basically falls off.

The ONLY way to be 100% sure you won't have those issues is to use automotive based paints like PPG or even the cheaper kits/spray bombs. Go to auto zone or a paint supply house where you can buy inexpensive DIY kits that come with basic sand papers, primers and clears then you can buy the corresponding colors off of the rack. They are MADE to work with each other and give pretty damned nice results if you take your time. Remember painting is 90% prep. :)
