CS&T WorldCon Detective Special

I just got an email asking if I would do a rusty scruffy dirty scratched switch in clip with screws with the wires on the outside version and cut them in the same way the WC gunÂ’s was.

So that means no working green LEDs in the rod.

I said sure if that is the way you want it.

Worked so hard to make the LEDs work in the rod, but it is have it your wayÂ…

They didn't work in the movie, did they?

Maybe you could do a Mark English Version Rich, bury in the cat box for a couple weeks, then run over it with the van a couple times then bury it in a pile of cow poop for month, presto, screen used original. :lol

Birdy, we think they were hooked up at some point and perhaps used in the dropped gun scene....
Othet that not that we know of.

ME Version coming up.....you forgot the salt brine...

Burger Coyle. Have it your way. :D

Looks great Rich. Well done.

I'm still a bit confused.

Is this the ultimate one? Or will the metal version be the Ultimate one?

The metal version will be the same as this version plus have all the 'make it your way' options?

I think they all have the "make it your way" option. Only the resin model is, naturally, cheaper. Correct me if I'm wrong... :p

The set screw in the holes are cheap and can be put in most likely by anyone (hopefully without too much damge to the paint). I still think the closest thing to ultimate would be one of Craig Kovach's, even if they aren't totally screen accurate, because they are made from the real parts. Honestly in my opinion the "Ultimate" has still yet to be made. Rich's may be the closest to that goal though. If the owner ever decides to lend his gun in order for a licensed version to be made, it may happen, but I doubt it. The BR partnership has no need for chump change when just their signatures are worth millions (or billions) every time they sign a deal. In the mean time Rich's is the best you can get, but that is all a matter of opinion at this point.

Actually, I am pretty happy with Rich's effort. It's sitting on a table next to one of MM's Multipass kits, which I am also pretty happy with. Rich may offer a new and improved version at some time in the future that includes absolutely everything that everyone wants, but I sure don't feel that he misrepresented this model (except the alternate definition of the term ultimate meaning "last"; it also means "best" or "superior quality" and I'm using that definition). Andy's probably right that Craig's real parts versions are closest in the way that the balance pipe-grenade-flash-calc bubble-booster Obi-Wan are closest to that prop and I wish I could justify one of each of these for the collection. I've heard it before that some people (like me) can be satisfied with something that others apparently can find less satisfying. I wish them luck - seems like there's really only one authentic prop (the one Karl photographed) and everything else, no matter how accurate, is really an interpretation.

So I like Rich's new interpretation and wouldn't hesitate recommending it to someone who could justify the price. I need to complete the Rick Ross Magnum and Snubnose kits to add to the collection of interpretations. I probably won't see a RAC metal version, but I'm sure, based on what I have, that it would not disappoint. ;)

With the old model I was doing changes as we learned more.

Now if I do something wrong or miss something there is no excuses, I have the pictures and it would be my fault, so I spent 4 or more months checking and fixing and redoing every part of this model.

There will be no new models no major changes. This IS the Finial Model. And IF something should show up it will fit the current model and will be offered to all who want their model upgraded. (Other than paint finish)

His other implied complain is that I have not chosen to do only one model and it being the exacta copy of the gun as found, rusty and damaged and with the wires cut to the rodÂ’s LEDs.

Most want the gun as it would (should) have looked during the filming and with the rods wires hidden as if they were a real gun not a prop.

And most feel the little screws in the ammo housing are some kind of fix to a prop and again would not be part of a real gun.

So we are at the age old problem, on the set prop VS. on the screen gun, IE: what we saw on the screen.

Often the portrayed prop is not the same as what we can see taken off the movie screen and looked at in the hard day light, and in some cases there are many models doing the work of one, to get all the action in, the guns in Judge Dredd are a case in point.

It took many guns to do that entire prop did, a real shooter, one to do the Double Whammy power head, one to light up ETC.

IF you run a 4/40 tap though the holes it should not harm the finish and then you can screw in the 4/40 set screws.

In detailing both will be just about the same, it comes down to material you want, metal or plastic.

I have a very good saying that applies in this situation.

Accuracy is in the eyes of the buyer

I have headed up a lot of Active Projects and I have found that most people can look at the exact same picture and interpret it in a different way.

Rich is just giving the buyer the opportunity to buy a prop that is the way THEY think it should be.

I can't believe people are bagging on him for this.

I think it's what you want and some people don't see what they want.Looks good to me Rich. :cheers :thumbsup
