Crime is the disease. Meet the cure.

OK, technically, this isn't the cure. It's actually the disease's weapon of choice in the movie.

I was going through some stuff I had lying around, taking photos for a trip to eBay. I came across this, which I think is the first real prop item I ever bought, probably about 15 years ago.

It's a shame to see it go, but I really don't have any use for it anymore.

I would love to have that gun with the pearl grip and the cobra inlay. Was it a 44?

It was a Colt .45 auto, with a conversion kit that allowed it to fire 9mm ammunition. The grips were ivory (or ivory-esque).

I have an old gun magazine that examined/reviewed the firearms used in that film. ;)

Some well-respected magazine (New Yorker maybe?) reviewed Cobra along with some "important" movie that was released about the same time. The reviewer much prefered Cobra. I remember tormenting my mom with that article... :D

The gun Stallone actually used was a Colt Lightweight Commander in 9mm.
It had the Ivory gips with the cobra engraved on it.

The gun itself isn't very rare at the time but now thay are hard to find..
I would love to find a Lightweight Commander now in 45 acp..

I wish I still had the Cobra 'fan film' I made in 1986 when I was 15 years old. I made his gun from cardboard and all the parts clipped together :)

Eh, the 1911 clones are a dime a dozen...

Now, give me a Jati 9mm SMG and we're talkin.

I remember that film--unfortunately :p

Loved the gun and the car, but the film was a stinker. The baddie with the knife was Brian Thomson, right?

Well, the Colt Commander comes with a 4.25" barrel/shortened slide, but the gun used in Cobra had a standard 5" barrel/full-length slide.

On the lefthand side of the piece, you can see "Colt MKIV", with a smaller inscription beneath, which probably reads 'series 70' or '80'. It has a drop-in kit to change the caliber. On the righthand side of the gun beneath the ejection port, you can see the inscription that reads: "9mm Conversion Unit".

Also, it appears that the "ivory" is an inlay over wood grips, as a wooden border is visible around the grips in some of the photos...
