Crackerjazz' 1/10 Lunar Module LM-5 Eagle Ascent Stage

Hi Haystack Hair - thanks! I hope you don't tire of the updates - I'm not such a fast builder so the updates come in teeny steps. I just hope it doesn't become a Millennium LM - like my Falcon that's gonna take a millennium to complete : )

Love the pic by pic comparison...I hope that when your LM is done, you'll take pics with the moon as a background;)

Ohh! I'm sorry!!!
:facepalm Of course you can't understand that.
I'm sorry I wanted to say ' Very precise, I'm keep impressed '

I had typed this in the 5 o'clock in the morning. Half of my head was still sleeping.

LMFAOSchwarz-san, long time no see, I'm sorry. But things around me are getting better by far these days.
I have started to build the new model.

Sorry again

Hey, Crackerjazz! No worries about being a slow builder. This thread is sort of like reading a book that's so good, you don't want it to end, anyway! :)

I can't yet find the video I mentioned a while back, but if you're in the mood, this one here is highly interesting in a 'future that never was' way.

It's in Russian, but the visual content more than makes up for it. Anyhow, I was watching it and thought of you!

Haystack Hair, thanks! Hi joberg, might try that - and maybe for the base, too : ) Katsu-san, Bob LOL I thought keek was an eek emoticon. The "precie" I wouldn't have guessed. Oh and thanks for the link Bob - interesting stuff. Hi NylonGag I really appreciate your kind words, thanks a lot!

Tried to use real aluminum from the microwave containers but not as workable as styrene. It would have looked
authentic, though.

You can get aluminium sheet relatively cheaply from wholesalers, I know it comes in very thin sheets too. failing that, could you heat the styrene and crease it to get that effect? Might be worth a shot, that sort of 'used' look will give it much authenticty

Hi Haystack Hair! It came from an aluminum container. Hey, Mike - I tried the pop can, too - it's tougher to cut, but
thanks for the suggestion. I might experiment a bit more from another source, but I'm definitely taking the aluminum
sheet route as everyone suggested. It does make it easier easier to model the wrinkles on the metal and does look
more realistic, than trying to make wrinkles on styrene, like below.

I'd say you still have to force yourself to believe it's wrinkled metal:

But with real metal there's no mistaking it for painted styrene. Even a roughly done panel looks more real to my eye.

So I sanded off the rivets on the IMU housing to make the surface nice and smooth for the aluminum skin.

And glued on the remaining panels.

Crackerjazz, I thought of you and this thread this morning while I was at Home Despot. I spied upon that wide silver tape used for wrapping around heat duct work, and wondered if it would be of any use with this phase of your build...but it's looking like you already found your answer. :)

Are you thinking about the inside also? And how about the landing struts? I know, it's a long way to go into the planning of such project, but one cannot be careful enough;)
