Thanks for watching, Keith! Darren, thanks! Katsu-san and Nylon Gag ?- man that's too big a compliment - those guys are lightyears ahead. And your work is equally admirable. I'm unable to make steady progress lately. And I'm trying to think of a good way to skin the lunar module and be able to show indentations on the skin well. The skin isn't supposed to be taut and smooth - they should show the bumps and indentations. And I need something thin that can stand rough handling. I'm thinking about different materials but it looks like thin styrene sheet is still the way to go.

After seeing those 1/24 and 1/10 models I'm determined to make one. Hopefully a 3D-printable 1/18 or 1/24.

Not as smooth-sailing as I had wanted but making progress anyway. Everytime I'm sure some method would work out,
I hit a snag, some command doesn't work, and it takes quite a while to figure out and move forward. After I loft the
coffin bulkheads, I'm quite sure I'll have a bit of a problem putting on rivets onto the curved surfaces. I'm thinking
about two options: (1) make the coffin smooth and hand-place rivets after printing or (2) Model the rivets and cover
the coffin with bare-metal foil.

Just out of curiosity, what program are you building this in?

Hi Mike, I'm building this in Solidworks. I didn't really plan to print the whole ascent stage at first. What I wanted was just to be able to model it in 3D so that it would be easier to visualize the final model and flatten the parts for cutting in styrene. The IMU for instance got me scratching my head a lot trying to visualize going back and forth between the orthographic views from the blueprints. It all makes sense now in 3D. And it struck me - at 1/18 scale the ascent stage isn't too big - about 9.5 inches in either direction and about 6.5 inches high. So printing the entire ascent stage might actually work.

In addition, building the descent stage to go with it is more feasible (brings the whole 1/18 ship to a little over a foot high with a 20-inch stance) than building one at 1/10. Although it would be more practical to scratchbuild the descent stage hull than try to print one. The shape is more boxy anyway than the wierd ascent stage which is a scratchbuilding nightmare.

some time but the modeling bug bit me again. I've been hacking away at this since the

Completed the coffin. I'll be doing the front porch next, then onto the front RCS housings.

Yes, it has been to long, Crackerjazz. I've been negligent in my modeling duties, due mainly to that pesky foe called real life. But I guarantee that will be rectified! Your stunning work has kinda got me thirsting even more to get back into it. As soon as that's possible, look out! I've got plans... :cool

I've got to locate again that youtube video of a pre-Apollo Nasa film of the projected moon mission. It's cool, the animation of the lunar module and orbiter, at that stage, are depicted with about, maybe, seventy percent accuracy to what eventually was. It's like an alternate universe version of the mission!
