Continuum rifle - real gun or made up?

"Airsoft weapon"?
Those words go together like "feather bludgeon" and "economical solar power"...

Yes they are considered weapons in Australia because they fire a projectile. Strangely though, Nerf guns aren't.

Slingshots are illegal too as are throwing blades of any kind (knives, shuriken, whatever). I had a machined aluminium batarang seized and destroyed by Customs as it was considered a "throwing blade". It didn't even have a sharpened edge on it. I told them I considered that one a bit ridiculous as virtually anything could then be defined as a throwing blade. I could buy a kitchen knife and throw it.

Nunchakus, pepper spray, handcuffs and bullet-proof vests are illegal to own here too.

I tried to bring back a small blunt Keris knife from Malaysia and had it detained by customs at the airport [I’m also an Aussie]. Apparently daggers are also prohibited items as far as importing goes [I'm in the process of getting a permit to have it released, they do this to control the number available on the market, you can still buy them from some disposals stores ect...].

It was a rather special customs inspection, when the officer explained to me that Daggers require a permit, whilst a samurai sword is okay to import, because it only has a single edge on it, apparently by customs logic, two edges means twice the danger.

If you want to build one from scratch using something similar to an M-4 as a base, there's a papercraft AR-15 that you can download from this page
Modular Paper AR15 V3 by ~Hoborginc on deviantART [it has some moving parts]

Thankfully printers are still legal here, for now... :p
You should be able to reinforce it to make it more durable, and somehow build the Star Dragon shrouds over it. Then spray it fluro pink and green and never take it outside.

It reminds me of the C-23 [Another Poseidon/Seburo firearm from Shiro Masamune's works].

I've got a pepakura of it, but it hasn't been scaled, or unfolded [i had/have plans of making it at some point, along with a bunch of other things]. I extracted it from a game mod a while ago, so I'm not sure if it's right for me to share it, since it isn't really my work.

A few M4/M16 options that are located withing Australia:

Toyarmoury has several M16/M4 toy asault rifles

Ebay Australia, searching Australia only: there are a couple of hits that look like they could be full sized toy rifles.
This single search return is sort of halfway there to the finished prop. Well, at least it's already silver.

Some of the Armoured Heaven toy rifles have removable mags & they sell prop magazines as well.

At the bottom-centre of this page at Collectors Armoury is a diecast M16 capgun rifle, it might not be full-sized though...
