That sounds pretty cool. I'll see if I can try for it. I've got a little free time and I'll see if I can do something. :D

Just make sure I understand one of the rules: This is of items we have available around the house, no purchasing items to make it. Right?

I asked a similar question. You can buy parts from the store. "Found" means ,"Hey look I FOUND a cool toilet plunger handle at the Home Depot. I am going to buy it and make a sonic screwdriver out of it"

But if you have a bunch of cool stuff, go for it.

I was thinking it meant scrounging the scrap yard. That was wrong.

Cool beans. I'm going to be doing some shopping for some cleaning supplies tomorrow at Big Lots, and I can swing by the nearby Dollar Store and see what can be used. But I've got some stuff too I could possibly use here at my apartment. I guess it depends on what kind of design I go with. :D

OK so who's ready for the stupid question?

What is a Sonic Screwdriver? :confused

I realize that it is from Dr. Who (Right?) :confused But what exactly is it's function? What does it do? I'd be interested in having a go at this and seeing as how I've never seen one or an episode of the show even, I think it might make for a fun interpretation..

The Sonic Screwdriver is a tool used by the Doctor to get him out of situations or carry on exposition - e.g. - he could scan something and say "ooh, that's alien" :lol:rolleyes the screwdriver can:
Scan for things - aliens, technology etc
interface with TARDIS controls
lock and unlock doors and other objects (except a deadlock seal)
fix and blow-up things
and much more than a screwdirver!
all this done supposedly by using focused sound waves!

NB the functions mentioned above are mainly used in the newer series of who!:rolleyes

In essence an Intergalactic Swiss Army Knife. Setting #452 will help you remove a stone from a horses hoof.

There's a very good link Here that details all it's various uses in the original series, some of which I'd totally forgotten about. It does prove however that the Classic Series is just as guilty of using the 'driver as an easy plot device resolver.

I'm getting seriously excited about this competition and have started going through my 'Weird bits' box and picking out little items and such. I'm still seeking the base object that matches the one in my mind however.

All,

I wanted to take a moment to talk prizes. I have a few PM from those thinking about donating, and I have one that is a definate.

I would like to get a few more prizes together, before I reveal them, but you better bring your "A" game because, I am already jealous of the winner.

Another Prize thing...If you want to donate it doesn't have to be a Doctor Who item. Also those that donate can still participate. The only member that can't submit an entry is me, since I get to see them all before you guys do.

It does, especially once you find out what the prizes are going to be. Still I think of it as a way to contribute, and I love seeing what others can do. I am just happy to see the interest. Like I said earlier, bring your "A" game cause I feel we are gonna see some incredible sonics

Does anyone have an idea, short of cannibalizing a Character Options sonic how to get a sound chip thingy to add the sonic sound to a custom build?

I was wondering if something like this could be hacked and reprogrammed to have some variations on sonic sounds:

If you want to do the sounds on a budget get one of those recordable birthday(greeting) cards. It will have everything you need, except the sounds, for a couple of bucks.

Actually that was my first idea, but all the ones I can find around here that you can record a message into ideally the sonic sound, well they seem to be a big wafer card with a very large coin sized battery. How to hack that into an 11th Doctor sonic I can't see how to do.
