Gone but not forgotten.
I recently ran myself through a SOAP marathon - The show is still as funny as I remember. I also remember, as a kid, wanting a Bob doll - Chuck's ever present sidekick and the obnoxious comic relief of the show.

Anyone know what ever happened to the original prop or seen any replicas over the years. I'd love to have one, but know these dummies can cost the moon. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

They are still performing.

Jay Johnson and the dummy were in a documentary called "I'm No Dummy". It was done in 2009. If you have Netflix it's on the streaming side. Defiantly worth watching.

WOW - That's good to hear. If half of the voice throwing he did on the show was real and not ADR, it's pretty amazing. I'll definitely check out the doc - thanks for letting me know about it. Was Bob made specifically for Jay, I'm sure it was, but it will make it that much harder to find one for myself.

Bob was built by Renee Rene. Apparently he still makes ventriloquist dummies so you could always see if he'd make another Bob. His website is: Welcome to Rene's World

I read that the original Bob puppet featured on Soap was inducted into the Smithsonian Institution's collections of pop culture icons in May 2007.

i was just watching these shows on you tube a couple of nights ago, i miss the old stuff.....

That's what I'm talking about. I'm going to give i a shot, hopefully it's ot an exclusive ting.

And to know Bob is in the Smithsonian - makes sense

there are three Bob's one for the show (painted for lights) one for stunts and one was given to Jay (the one he preforms with. The original bob was sculpted by VIRGINIA AUSTIN CURTIS, two molds of his type are in existence Rene owns one and the other belongs to figure maker Jerry Layne. Bob was a custom figure so no exact replica is out there. The Jerry Layne figure looks VERY close. and are available still from Layne.
