Today has been productive! I've coated the bottoms of the boots with a generous amount of red flexi dip. Hopefully this will prevent embarrassing slips and faceplants.

And the focal point, the mask! Without a faceshell to attach to, I have to devise a way to keep the lenses aligned. My plan is to make a frame mounted underneath the fabric that the lenses then attach to with magnets.

I'll need to keep the frame thin so it doesn't bulge out unnaturally. Either a thin flexible plastic or fabric interfacing should do the trick. I might even be able to work out a simple system to articulate the eyes!

...one thing at a time, Logermeister. Anyhow, the progress is really picking up now!

I had to do something similar for my Ditko mask, glued a piece of foam padding in between the inner tips of the lenses so that they’d sit properly on my face without having to wear a shell

Little update. I've found a way to keep the boots in place without any form of hooks or button snaps!

20190808_022059.jpg

How did I accomplish such a feat, you may ask? Fabric interfacing and hot glue!

20190808_022221.jpg

The interfacing stabilizes the opening of the boot, and the hot glue acts as a grip against the pants. Once it's over my calf it's not going anywhere. There's one less thing to worry about!

Homestretch! The eyes are finally attached to the mask.

The magnetic lenses turned out perfectly!

I ultimately decided to go with the classic solid "tick" spider on the back. Yet more flexi-dip was used for a rubbery texture, but it looks like the Texas humidity caused some cracking :( I'll likely end up redoing it.

And now, the first suit up!

Not too shabby! Just a few more tweeks, and I think I'll have something special!

I'm necroposting my own thread! I've made a few upgrades since my last outing.

Firstly, I've added some shoulder pads for a more heroic profile. It helps the look immensely!

IMG_20200612_190753_066.jpg

Then I ripped out the old grip rings from the boots. They worked, but only if I was standing perfectly still. They've been replaced by a full length fabric interface lining. No more falling!

IMG_20200612_190753_067.jpg

Lastly, I've replaced the hooks on the front and back of the belt with button snaps and added stirrups to the sleeves like I said I was going to on page one :p And I got to take it out for a test drive at my local jungle gym park! My girlfriend got some fantastic shots.

This is really cool, I see the subtle TASM 1 influence with the broken up front emblem and another thing how on earth do you look like your wearing a shell?!?

Glad to see this thread isn't dead! As for the mask, the red mesh fabric used is a bit stiffer than plain spandex, and it was patterned out on a head form with a faceshell. The result is a mask that's fitted for a shell, but stiff enough to support itself without one.

...as long as I'm here, I've actually made a few more upgrades since last time. First off, a pair of more comic-esque lenses in white mesh (magnetically interchangeable!)

I've also revamped the boots. The old soles were wearing through, so I bought a pair of red mesh running shoes and spliced them onto the shins. I also added a zipper on the back, so they're much easier to put on now. A quick shot of red fabric spray paint to color match and some sharpie weblines, and they were complete. I think these will last me quite some time, now!

Last touch, I filled in the spider emblem with slick puff paint. As much as I liked the emblem on its own it just wasn't jiving with the classic style of the rest of the suit. Rest in peace, TASM influence

Haven't gotten many full shots of the newly upgraded suit yet, but I'll be uploading them here when I have!

Well its still good personally I prefer mirrored lenses and techincaly that was more accurate as a comic panel mentioned he had one way mirror lenses also the front emblem If you want more dimension and an even surface try this method by Grampsee on these forums in the link below.

DUDE! I love this. This is exactly what I want Spidey’s suit to look like in the movies (and you kinda predicted Tom’s new suit haha)

Question: I noticed in a picture your neck skin was visable: how would you go about tackling this issue if you wanted to avoid that?

Also, personally, I love the look without the shoulder pads more. Makes it feel more like it’s a young kid in there rather than a bulky adult you know?

And agreed with homie on top I love the look of the mirror lenses, but the white lenses are sick too. Are they as visible as the mirror lenses?

Again, love this suit. Amazing job.

well mirrored lenses are like seeing out of sunglasses so their less fuzzy than mesh (even though the fuzziness is VERY VERY minor) but they will fog
