Cobra Kai Karate Kid tv comedy sequel

It was announced the last season was going to be split into 2 parts although I guess they changed their minds and are doing it in 3. Cobra Kai is definitely one of Netflix's better platform exclusive shows and since it is ending, they want to milk it for all its worth.

I agree there was an issue with Cobra Kai seemingly stalling in the previous seasons from like 4. It was always despite being similar, Johnny and Daniel find ways to dislike each other and not work together and kids bounce among teams to choose a side. Its kind of repetitive or predictable in that way but still isnt the worst thing on tv.

I’m really disappointed considering how much I loved season 1 and 2

I just feel the following seasons are just repeats of the same thing just different color gi’s

Everyone I know irl that's watched this season has had nothing good to say about it. I doubt I'm going to bother. Theres only so much things can be escalated without getting boring and repetitive.

There are 5 episodes left. The whole season is 15 episodes, with three timed drops of 5 episodes each.

I’m enjoying it, but I’m a die hard fan. I was always going to like it anyway. If you’re on the fence, maybe skip it. It’s got some good, some bad, but they did up the “silliness” element some. And broke the canon of the original a little. Not bad, but enough to annoy die hard fan.

One thing that does bother me that they’ve been doing pretty much every season and continue doing: the big Rocky style training sequence the day before the big fight. As much as I LOVE a good training montage, it’s very annoying when they do it the day before the fight. It’s a terrible idea. You needed to be doing that a month ago. The day before the fight (several days actually) should be resting. Eat a balanced meal, get a good nights sleep. Maybe some general stretching. NOT going for a big run, no sparring, and absolutely no weight lifting. That’s just dumb.

I love the junkyard training montage lol

The original films weren't exactly realistic and I can deal with that to an extent. At some point they run out of things to raise the stakes with, things get too trite and ludicrous to suspend disbelief. I cant get behind ride or die, doesn't make sense. When fandom will take absolutely anything, thats what they'll get.

Trying to think with the first film if there was something too far fetched…

The breaking bottles scene at the beach?

I know in part 2 the breaking the big log, and ice was a little crazy

But I can’t really think of stuff that pulled me out of the movie in part 1

There were several things that were too far fetched IMO, but the most egregious is instant healing by the laying on of hands after rubbing them together.

I don't buy that Daniel would've been able to win or even advance in a tournament after only training for a short time, even with Mr. Miyagi behind him. But thats also part of what I love about the movie. Sooo...

I'm actually surprised by this, but it seems most people agree with you that this is what he was doing. I never thought that.

I remember watching it as a kid with my Dad and at that part my dad saying "He's pinching the nerve!"

It's not a magic healing like Reiki, it's more like acupressure. Te idea is that he isn't "healing" anything, he's just dulling the pain the area temporarily. IN THEORY it won't do anything about actual damage, but if your arm is sore from painting all day, then the idea is that you can dull the pain enough to make it though a few exercises. I don't know how much real medical evidence there is of it being effective, but it is a belief in places.

The cobra kai "hit the nerve to render him immobile" is nonsense as far as I know, but also was not invented by this show. It's more of a 'movie belief'. We saw the same thing in the Serenity movie. Things that are nonsense in real life, but that movie writers seem to believe and a lot of the audience accepts, like silencers that make handguns go "thwup", or people who back down in a middle of a fight because you talk snarky to them.

He wasn't healed though was he? He still limped out to the final fight and limped into the car park at the start of KK2.

Even as a kid I saw it as Miyagi playing a bit of a placebo/reassurance mindtrick on Daniel.

About 10yrs ago a french guy started at our Taekwondo school. No prior experience. 6 months later with his yellow belt he went in to our regional competition and won the thing.
Since then I don't question such things.

Also, Daniel is scrappy and tough, he takes out one of the CK one on one on the soccer pitch. We know he is capable.
