CLONE WARS weekly discussion thread

Just FYI: The Clone Wars movie is also listed on Netflix, so anyone who is viewing the series for the first time, you may want to start with the movie as it is not considered part of season one.

Just finished the season. Outstanding up until the last few episodes, then it got silly and tedious. Ending felt rushed and anti-climactic. The end of season 5 still feels like the real ending to me. Still, I'm super pumped we got to see these!

In two weeks, it will be one year since Lucasfilm Animation was disbanded. At the time, on the day, it all happened so quickly, and amidst all else we didn't know what would become of all of the material that we were working on. We had an idea of what would go forward, what would stop dead, but we wondered how it would get in front of people, if ever it would.

If you haven't seen the series in a digital format, at least watch one of the last episodes as so. You never saw what we did on CN (edited for content and brutally clamped down on the color and value ranges) and what we saw was never what the fans saw. Shame. You see, we were never allowed to sit still, and the bar that was constantly elevated (DreamWorks, Pixar, Laika, etc...) is indeed one that we had to match- that of those companies' filmic animation, not the crap that passes as television animation these days. Every time a new tech, new scope, new feel was seen to be possible in film, we had to work out a way to make it a part of what we did, and not draw attention to it. Just let it be there, as if naturally.

I hope everyone enjoys these last eps. There will never be another crew like the CW crew. Disney has no idea what they lost, and doesn't care. So be it. Thanks to the fans who kept us going, from each side of the love/hate coin.

And just imagine what we would have done in seasons 7 and 8...

Loved the first arc about the Clones and the last arc with Yoda. Even Jar Jar's adventure was enjoyable. Padme's arc could have been skipped entirely.

Padme's arc could have been skipped entirely.

I disagree. I only watched the first two episodes but I find them very interesting due to the big picture of the prequel trilogy. I like the fact that financing a war is being addressed. We know the Emperor can't just crank out Death Stars on a whim. The Embo downhill chase…. awesome! I also like seeing Palpatine use any opportunity to push Anakin to his breaking point to his inevitable turn to the dark side.

As I have said numbers times in this thread, the series has really helped fill the motivations of characters. In ROTS, I felt that Anakin's jealousy of Obi as it pertained to Padme was not believable or his sudden jump to the dark side. But it you consider that Palpatine has been twisting him for years such as in this situation, it makes much more sense.

Ok, I have not read any of this thread since I am starting to watch it on Netflix but I am seriously confused... I watched the series which ended with Palpy getting caught by Gen Grevious. That was a 2D cartoon. Now I see on Netflix a 3D 6 season version and a 1 1/2 hour "movie"?? In what order should I be watching?? My head hurts.

Sent from somewhere in time & space...

The sameri jack style 2D cartoon is not considered canon so you can forget that.

Start with the 1.5 hour movie...

....then start at season 1 of the series.

At the very least to say these were a series finale is wrong the series finale was the end of season 5 these are exactly as titled Random Lost Missions. they stuck s6 on it for good measure, but in no way is that a season. The arcs were great, but there isn`t the Boba Fett arc they said was finished there wasn`t certain other arcs that had been discussed as ready to go! as stated by the animation team from tcw. so this is a selection of finale finished episodes. it shows even if it had not been canceled there was not much more time left in there era for it to have gone on a lot longer than maybe 3 season they could stretch it out til order 66. I was ecstatic to see Darth Bane even more so to see Dark Side yoda v Light Side Yoda would have been great to see a return of Ashoka even if just as a side arc in a Anakin 3 episode arc just a random bump into pre order 66, after all she`s already been mentioned for Rebels why not?.

Oh well, that is a wrap for TCW would love for them to have let it finish on Netflix but we can pine for whats gone, all we can do is press on and hope for a brighter future, Rebels wont be it, Disney likes to keep things bright and cheerful, so hopefully they allow someone else to bring out a series Animated or Live Action set in the galaxy that can drift between light and Dark. Thanks for the rest of what was ready to go for the clone wars.. Disney :)

I felt the same about it in a way, the added episodes were great , but I didn't see them as an end to a series, so in away I hope that sertain topics will come back in Rebels, Ahsoka, Fett maybe even Maul's end, Maul made me think of Joruus C'Boath in a way, maybe he gat's adressed in rebels in a similar way.

I'm purposefully avoiding the posts in this thread to avoid spoilers and opinions because I am watching one episode a week as if it were a normal broadcast season to give me something to look forward to every weekend... had a busy weekend so I just watched the first episode of season 6 and it was fantastic!!! I might even have to watch it again before I move on to episode 2! :D Its awesome to have CW back even if for a short time (for me the next three months! :D ) then I will start over and watch it all again from the very beginning to appease myself before Rebels starts! Good Hunting!

The last 3 episodes, the Yoda story arc... while I certainly appreciate the art design and animation, and the Sith acting like the Sith, etc....

it just does not seem to do ANYTHING for the Yoda character.
Basically, Qui Gon sends Yoda on a journey to learn how to keep his consciousness alive in the Force, after he dies.
Yoda learns that, "OK, you've conquered your inner demons, now you are worthy to keep your consciousness, someday, when you die. Good luck."

...but Yoda had to go through HELL to get to that place.
How did Qui-Gon ever do it? WHEN did Qui-Gon ever do "the tests", or have ever had the time to do so?

Can Jedi see their own future, their own deaths?

And when Yoda asks Qui-Gon POINT BLANK: "Who is the Sith Master?"
...Qui-Gon says he CAN'T TELL HIM???!!! WTH???! Why not? (well, we know from a story perspective that no one knew of Palpatine/ Sidious until ROTS), but from inside the STORY perspective, Qui Gon really mucked things up.

Tell Yoda it's freakin Palpatine, deal with him now. No turn to the Dark Side for Anakin, no Death Star, no Jedi extinction/ mass murder, no Imperial control of the Galaxy, etc... etc...

And IF Qui-Gon really doesn't know, from inside the Force, who Darth Sidious really is, that greatly reduces his character and the concept of the Force itself.

I guess my biggest beef with the whole series is that, in fleshing out these characters, they clash with their ROTS counterparts in such a hard way.
For example: Anakin becomes a teacher, a better and more confident, and less aggressive, character in the Clone Wars, but then he's back to petulant brat in ROTS.

OK, rant over. Move along.

Maybe it's a Force Rule

Did Lucas seriously take a pre-established Sith world Korriban and rename it to Moraband just because he liked it better? More screwing of good EU matieral just for the heck of it.

You have that backwards. At the time of the making if this episode of the CW, there never was an officially established Sith home world or name. It became established in this episode when GL made it so.

Korriban isn't just some planet that was only mentioned once in some Expanded Universe novel. This is a planet that has played a key role the Star Wars universe for 20 years. It's not only played major roles in story lines spanning the old republic (Knights of the Old Republic) but also the New Republic (Jedi Acedemy). We don't need to wipe out it's entire existence just because Lucas liked the name Moraband better. I mean, what's the point? Just call this world that's supposed to be Korriban freaking Korriban. Why create more pointless rifts in the Star Wars canon when you can just simply acknowledge it? Not only will fans of EU "get it", but new viewers will be introduced to a new world that they can explore elsewhere. Now we're just left with a world that has never been seen before or since.
