City on the Edge of Forever working Tricorder V2

A few years back my good friend Estil (RPF name eaviii) came up with the great idea of adding a working video screen into a Diamond Select tricorder. By doing this he was able to load video as seen in the Star Trek original episode, City on the Edge of Forever. It worked great, and the effect was fantastic. The problem was mounting the MP3 player behind the screen in such a secure way to that the screen would stay put so that you could carry around the unit with no fear of the player sliding out.
I took the idea and ran with it.
It took a LOT of gutting and re-wiring and some unorthadox thinking, but I finally finished it to where I'm very happy with it.
Unfortunately, sacrifices had to be made in order for this to work. There are no longer any sounds to the tricorder as well as no more blinkie lights. However, I was able to retain the moving moire! And honestly, the effect with the working screen is easily worth the trade-off. You can even open and close the top of the tricorder!
Right now, there is five minutes of all the Edith Keeler information seen in the episode all streaming together. the actual footage is about 15 seconds long but loops for five minutes.
And just for fun we also added five minutes of full color working "bio signs" as McCoy would have used on HIS tricorder. There is still a ton of storage that is currently unused to add more screens as time goes on!

But these words are useless without pics...or video...

Looks fantastic! The video footage works really well. Shame about the loss of sound and blinkies.

What did you use for the screen?

Believe it or not, that's the screen that came with the tricorder. Removing it was...challenging. :lol
Also, it looks MUCH better in person. The blacks and grays are much sharper. For some reason it looks a bit washed out on video.

this came out wicked good funky!
city on the edge of forever is one of my favorite episodes.

I keep getting the same question via PM: what size MP3 player or iPod did I use? There are a few cheap options out there, just make sure the screen is 2"x2".

Fantastic Funky. I've had this on my list of things to try ever since I added one to my macros. Well done!
