Hi guys. I've been a long time lurker on this site for a very long time and I've only just plucked up the courage to begin posting on here. It was this amazing page and in particular Nick Daring's mindblowing Cthulu sculpt that got me interested in sculpting with clay and I've picked up so many tips, tricks and ideas from the incredible work that I've seen here. It also led me to the Stan Winston School (Don Lanning and Jordu Schell in particular) and from there it's become a proper obsession, even YouTube-ing sculpts-in-progress videos whilst pretending to watch TV and eating dinner ...
Anyway, I wanted to put up some pics of my current work in progress ... it's definitely a WIP. I began by putting together a folder of reference material on my laptop and tablet, and it took me about two weeks to scoure Google for photos (it's SO difficult to get a decent profile shot of the man!!), information on Reeve's training methods when he was being battered in shape by Dave Prowse, his height and weight. I've got so obsessive that I'm trying to only use photos from 1978 and the only concession I've made in this respect was for a photo Reeve in his wheelchair taken just after his accident that I stumbled across (because it was the best relaxed profile picture I could find). I've also taken a lot of inspiration from the Hot Toys figure as well and various statues and busts that I've found in my search.
I've been working on it on and off for about two months now and I figured that posting it here would give me the impetus I needed to continue working on it. This is only the third sculpt that I've worked on (the others being a skull study and a 1/9 scale male figure study based on Henry Cavill's physique from 'Man of Steel') - originally this was going to be a Cavill, but for me Reeve IS Superman and so thought it would be more appropriate.
It's sculpted 1/6 scale in Super Sculpey Firm and because it's based on Reeve's real height, hopefully it will as accurate as I can possibly get it in terms of proportion. Apologies for advance with the quality ... they're a mix of smartphone and tablet photos and so have an element of distortion to them ...
But enough of the garble ... here we go ...
Generic 3/4 profile shot of the head and torso ...

Profile ...

Full body (with one of the hands in the background ... um ... those aren't going to be his finished arms ... !)

Any comments etc would be helpful - again this is a work in progress and I'm going to be cleaning a lot of it up
