Chief Jim Hopper Costume and Props Thread

I've never studied the HPD patches until just now, and am I seeing what you see?

It looks to me like there are, perhaps, four different sizes of white stars.

Of course HAWKINS is flanked by the two largest white stars.

Then there's the outer circle of white stars.

And there's an inner circle of white stars, a half-circle actually, forming a "U".

For clarity let me number the outer circle of 13 white stars like this: starting with #1 in the 12 O'clock position, proceeding clockwise around the circle to #13.

Now it seems to me that the stars around the bottom half of the outer circle are bigger than the stars around the top half of the circle.

The oddest thing is the pair of stars forming the terminus of the lowest gold ray-lines, #4 and #11. One of this pair seems to match the smaller stars around the top half of the circle, the other seems to match the larger stars around the bottom half of the circle. Specifically, #4 is smaller than #11.

Four of the five white stars that form the inner U-shaped half-circle are larger, like the stars around the bottom half of the outer circle. The middle white star, resting on the gold torch-handle, is the smallest star on the patch.

All that aside, when I look over the large number of different HPD patches available I see a surprising number of different ways of getting the patch wrong.

Some follow this, which perhaps is the official image? With the stars too small as Pinder has mentioned

This is the closest one I see now online, on Amazon, sold by Minimum Mouse. It has the dark blue, the gold rays connecting to six of the stars, and the very small white star on the torch-shaft

I ordered some of these a while back from a few different places and the background color is actually black and not blue.

My Flying Cross shirt arrived in the post today. I'd have never said I have a particularly thick neck but apparently the neck sizing would allow me to pitch the shirt and use it for camping! I've found another sizing chart from Galls and will have to send this back and swap it for one 3 sizes smaller!
What a pain in the butt.

I've been looking for a 3D printed Colt Python .357 with 4" barrel and chequered walnut grips with the Colt medallion.

This is the closest I've found, here's the source for the file. Nice detail on the grips and medallions.

Does anyone know a reliable person to do the printing?

Thanks to all of you who have supported the screen-accurate Hawkins Police Department US flag patch project!

I have now arranged to have a run of the blue triangular Hawkins Police Department patches made.

If the patch company follows the design I sent them (thanks Pinder91!!!) and uses the correct colours, and executes the embroidery properly (let's keep our fingers crossed!) then we will have the first screen-accurate HPD patches available.

I will let everyone know when they are in, ETA is early to mid October.

Hi there, I have been following this thread for a while and managed to get some of Dr Jones patches and have slowly worked my way through the various elements thanks to your collective effort. However, I am struggling somewhat with the shirt. Easy enough to find online, but not so much with international shipping. I was wondering if any of those who have built this up are in the UK and managed to get a shirt shipped over?

I too am joining the ranks of RPF Hoppers, a little late to the party, but hopefully fashionably.

I’ve been piecing stuff together but I didn’t wanna shell out $160aus+ on a holster, so some veg tan I had in my workshop got donated to the holster cause. I mocked up a pattern in 2mm EVA foam, around a colt python gel blaster, then cut, shaped and stamped the leather hide, before dying, gluing and stitching. It’s not 100% accurate as I made it a 1 piece, rather than 2, but for a total outlay of $30 for stamping tools and $10 for dye, I’m very happy with it.

Wow that is fantastic!! I don't know if you have interest in it, but if you wanted to help out our fellow RPF members it would be awesome if you became a Premium Member and sold those in the Classified section here.

I picked up a Tex Shoemaker holster on Ebay, which is close but not an exact match to the show holster. You've demonstrated the ability to create a 100% screen accurate one, which is awesome.

I don't know if you saw the way the strap is made in two sections, here's a screen shot

Here's the Tex Shoemaker I picked up, showing that construction detail. (Note the basketweave pattern on the body of my holster doesn't wrap around the front. At this point I'm not sure if the S1 and S2 holsters both do.)

For those who haven't examined a holster like this, here are some shots showing how the strap is constructed.

Interestingly, you can pop the inner popper/snap with your thumb and lift the revolver out, leaving the long outer strap in place.

I don't know if that's the purpose.

You can rotate the strap like this:

Here in this S2 closeup, a quick shot of Hopper holstering his revolver, you can see that the separate part of the strap has been removed.

Also it looks like the basketweave pattern doesn't wrap around the front of the holster.

This is a vintage 80’s dickie parka. Cotton, not nylon. But the lining on this one is red- have some sharpie magnums in blue coming tomorrow. They do a great job of “dyeing” the red lining. Hopefully I don’t dye my shirt wearing the jacket. I’ll post with the color hanged lining and the original tag of the jacket with style number if anyone is still interested

Again, this jacket has a red liner. But the features, length- all appear perfect

what about this hat? in brown

Dr Jones Sr That is some fantastic reference my friend! I could see that there was something more to the thumbstrap, but couldn't find much to show exactly what was going on. I may redo one as a V2, or possibly just pull this one apart and alter it to suit. Thank you so much for your pics and your kind words!

thanks Cbstudios! I realized that people might not have a Tex Shoemaker holster for reference. It's a cockamamy strap system and I wonder what the purpose was. There's that odd little metal plate that's riveted on, and the strap has a tiny hole punched in it that has no purpose I can think of.

About the Stratoliner, which is probably the closest available style, I think the closest colour might be their "Caribou".

(EDIT: I got a Caribou Strat and the colour is very nice, not grey or brown but somewhere in between, like taupe, with hints of olive green in some light, hints of purple in other light.)

On another issue, Hopper's pants, I know some people have had problems getting them from Gall's.

A member of the FaceBook group Pretty...Bitchin' found this source for the pants

Thanks Dr. Jones
I asked because the cornhill is sold out. Looks to be a limited color.
The stylemaster comes in Acorn Fawn. Are you meaning Acorn Fawn?

Edit. Found that place earlier and got my order in. Only place I could find the pants. Looks to be a discontinued item.
