Cheapest Rubies Supreme Vader?

I am looking to make the most inexpensive 1:1 Vader statue and have pretty much settled on a Rubies Supreme Vader on a manequin. Money is tight, so any other suggestions to drive costs is appreciated.

Does anyone know the most inexpensive source for this costume?

Are there cheaper Vader costumes out there that are decent? To be honest, I am willing to take a hit on accuracy; I am shooting for recognizable! :lol

Thanks for the advice! I have another thread in the prop forum asking about manequins to display the costume on.

I've seen some modified and painted and I think they look pretty good. Easily recognizable but not amazing. You get everything you need in the box but boots. Aren't they like $600.00 though? How cheap do you mean?

I have seen them for $550 which is way more than I would be able to afford right now but I am just weighing options for a sunnier day. I wanted to see if people knew of alternatives, maybe in the $300 range?

I don't think you'll find it for that cheap. Even used they go for a little more than that.

I will say too that they can be modded pretty well... but out of the box it will be very dissapointing.

OP....this probably isn't what you want to hear but my advice is to buy the quality components as you can afford them to put together a higher quality end product. It'll take you longer but I can guarantee that you'll be happier in the long run.

Kevin is right - doing vader on the cheap is probably not a good idea

As we all know - the Rubies vader can be modded to look " decent" but piecing together a proper vader overtime is sooo much more rewarding.

I do not think it's possible to get a decent vader at approx 300.00

I'm still not done and up to about 1200.00 at this point - and this is going on for 4 years now - but again...worth every penny :)

best advice u will probably get are what Kevin and anakin have stated. better start slow and work your way up. Patients will have to be your best friend.

But at the same time, the guy isn't looking for accuracy, just recognisability.

That been said, the rubies suit is probably the cheapest you are going to get as an all in one set, however, be prepared that, sooner or later, you will be upgrading, but it's a good start.

It's pretty doubtful you'll get anything less than a second hand suit for $300.

Understood....and I'm not saying to go out and blow a wad on the most accurate stuff. Some have done an amazing transformation with a Rubies Supreme into a convincing OT helmet.

Not sure what version the OP is thinking about and that will obviously steer him a certain way, but the Rubies costume, apart from the helmet; just ain't that great. Keep your eye out for a set of GT armor, chestbox, etc and with some creative ingenuity you could put together a very nice Vader for under a grand. That's what I would budget for a Vader on the cheap.
