Cheap display R2?

ive looked around here at some R2 threads... but ive really not found answers to my question.
does anyone have any plans/construction ideas for a cheap display only R2D2? id just like something to sit in the man cave and look nice. it doesnt need to be RC, or have all kinds of moving parts or be 100% accurate, just something nice that would make the average SW fan go"hey! its R2! awesome!".
any idas or help would be greatly appreciated!

I built one for about $500 worth of parts. Was static, except it had a color wheel & fiber optics for the logic board lighting in the head. I also did an R3 head using that 18" bird feeder dome, put all sorts of greeblies into it. Was fun!

Look around the various droid builder forums, and try to find resin or vacuformed parts - those are usually cheapest. It's how I got mine together. That and an 18" diameter construction cardboard pipe for the body.

You might want to check out the Styrene Droid Building section of Astromech.net.

You can now build a full size styrene droid almost entirely out of styrene using only the most basic tools. You will have a very accurate static droid for very cheap - and have the option of upgrading later on.

With the innovations in styrene droid building, you don't have to sacrifice accuracy for cost any more. You could actually spend more trying to buy found parts (body tubes, grills for domes, etc) and trying to build it that way.

All it takes is some time. :cool

Here is a picture of Björn Giesler's styrene droid:

I'd love one of these too, but just another project that I never seem to have time for.

I'd love to see someone come up with a fairly priced run of these.
