Cargo Containers inspired by Galaxy’s Edge

For Halloween this year I am going with a Star Wars theme and will be copying items from the OT and Galaxy’s Edge. For set dressing I’ll be adding some cargo containers.

The first one I started with some thrift store flower pots that I put together.

I covered the middle seam with a wide band of sintra.

I printed a few greeblies I found on Thingiverse and then started the paint process. The handle I found in my scrap bin but I had to lengthen it and threw away the center plastic part and made a new one from aluminum.

Some deep weathering and a few scratches with a paint pen and I am calling this done. This was a quick day project and cost me zero dollars.

This started as a Dewalt case, i sanded the logo off so it was flat and I wouldn’t have an image ghosting through the new paint.

I printed a couple of greeblies and inset one into the front of the box and used hotmelt to secure it.

Then onto the base coat of paint. I used Montana brand paint and it seems to stick really well to this plastic.

I misted with a sand color and then added the grime coat. Another light must of sand and then sealed it with a flat varnish.

And this one is done.

Can’t have a cargo stash without some stolen or bootleg items! I decided to make an Imperial crate out of my first attempt at the box section from my moisture vaporator build. I decided the box section was too big and rebuilt it knowing I was going to repurpose this one.

I cut up some 1/4” sintra I had leftover from a Christmas project and cut an access hole in the bottom of the crate so I can turn it over and store some small props.

Then 5 sides were finished. The sintra was glued down with CA gel glue and that worked out great. Tomorrow is paint.

Here is the imperial crate with a base coat of paint. I think I am going to do just small amount of sand weathering in the crevices as imperial stuff was usually in pretty good shape.

I’ll probably go back and put some Aurabesh lettering or numbers on some of the cases or some sort of ID tag. These are just background pieces so I don’t want to spend too much time on them as I have other projects planned that I need to work on. I think I’ll call this junk pile finished.

I added some Aurabesh tonight. I just printed paper stencils, cut them out with an xacto knife and used a little spray adhesive to secure them. I used a short bristled brush and dry pounced an off white color.

These probably won’t be noticed at night but sometimes it is the little details that bring a prop to life.
