Captain Rex wip(pic heavy)

I just started working on my realistic Captain Rex clone armor "pics to come soon" but one of the things I have to make is his pauldron I am going to model it after the sideshow figure of him is there any suggestions on what I can use I was thinking of try to use vinyl and some sort of foam sheets, but if any of you have any suggestions that would be great.

It's amazing what a nice base the Hasbro helmet is for fun modification. Nicely done so far.
