Captain Jack Sparrows Compass build (Almost Screen Accurate)

So this is my first prototype Jack Sparrow compass. Rather then making a tutorial (As i feel there are already a lot of good ones out there), I'm posting this to get some constructive criticism from fellow Jack enthusiasts and prop builders. Please feel free to tell me its good or bad, i want to improve so be as blunt as i normally am.

I will say this is close to screen accurate however its not good enough (In my opinion) to call it that. I used the wrong pull ring on the back , the wood isn't ebony, the domes made of plastic not wood, the dimensions are smaller then 3x3x1.25 inches which means the rest of the compass is off slightly, the hinge system is a bit bigger then what is needed, the poles inside the compass rose area are not triangular shaped brass, the brass dial is not etched, the elforyn inlays aren't cut uniformly, the compass rose is hand painted therefore a lot of detail is missing, and the inside lid is missing the leather.

Since finishing this compass i have been able to find the correct pull rings, dome, a better band saw for cutting pieces, accurate hinges, and thicker brass rods. So i could build a better one. However i have yet to find someone who sells ebony wood in the dimensions i need at a reasonable price. I'm all about screen accuracy and quality and as i was writing this i decided the lanyard attached as well as the outside of the compass wasn't grimy or dirty enough. So i guess its back to the workbench lol.

P.S. The compass rose actually has working wafer magnets in them. I attached 3 really powerful magnets to my hand glove so i can always have it point to "what my heart desires most", which is usually my left hand that has a bottle of rum lol.

Thanks! Yes it does work, the compass spins on a screw system with magnets under them to propel them in random directions. Its not like the toy version where you have to manually spin it.

nice work. as for feedback, depends what you're after. if you want to nitpick the details, then you'll need to decide which version of the compass you wish to replicate -- they looked different from first movie to the ones seen in other movies. there is a lot of reference on-line if you care to seek it out, which you'll want to do if you wish to make it 100% spot on. if you simply want a compass that's "close enough" for cosplay, then what you have looks pretty sweet to me...just make sure you built it sturdy enough to be banged around on your belt and to withstand the inevitable accidental drops to the ground.

Yea i know what you mean, pretty much my whole outfit is dead mans chest but some of the photos out there from the displays don't have labels as to which one is from what movies. I haven't done any drop tests yet, but i think thats a great idea for the ones i plan on building after this. As for it banging around on my belt,i think it adds more character that way lol and free weathering. Thanks for the support though, any feedback is always appreciated.
