Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Stealth Suit REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE

First, a small introduction. I am new to the propping world if you will. I have been an active member at a Ghostbusters site and completed my first proton pack last year and one of these days I will get around to detailing it on here.

That being said, I am interested in expanding my costumes and wouldn't mind adding the Cap to my arsenal....of which only includes Ghostbusters thus far lol

I am wondering a few things and I have sifted threads and am just curious as I see a million different Pepakura threads if anyone has actually taken the time to make sewable patterns available for the Stealth Suit. I have a seamstress available to me and I would love to give her an absolute challenge.

If not, thats cool, but I am welcome to any and all advice from the members of this fine community :)

Cheers!

I think you're going to come up dry for a printable pattern -- everyone here pretty much uses a variation of this process for making patterns:

I love the RPF, but the ability to download patterns which are not pep files is a huge frustration to me. :)

Hey, Turk, that thread looks familiar! ;)

Mcase, the real thing with patterns for something like this is, there's no real way to make a "stock" printable pattern for it. These garments have to be so specific that they really have to be custom made to measure. You can take a basic pattern like a jacket or vest and grade it for standard sizes, but when you start adding in all the inset pieces and small detail seams and multiple fabrics, there's no way to do that.

The best way to do it is to start with a basic pattern, get that to fit properly and build a mockup. Then, draw the style lines for the costume on the mockup, cut that apart and use it for your cutting patterns.

I was thinking that cutting up a Disguise Halloween stealth suit costume to make a series of patterns may be a helpful starting point. The detail on it is not great but it could be a cheap way to help build templates for a lot of individual parts for the costume. It should be proportionally correct for your body when purchased in the right size. They cost only about $25 at Walmart.

Yeah, that's a good way to start - same basic concept I outlined, but you already have the design style lines included for you.

In my defense, it's the best step-by-step summary of this build on the internet. The body-casting part is where everyone starts, but you have taken it to an insane level.

Thanks, it's been a cool project. I did a more comics-based version of Cmdr Steve a couple of years ago that wasn't based on a tape cast. I just made a basic muslin jacket and pants mockup that were altered to the correct measurements to draw on the pattern lines. That's what I usually do and is really pretty much the same concept as above. I don't have that other Cap on here but if you want to take a look, you can: http://smpdesigns.com/smp/how-it-was-made-steve-rogers-captain-america/
