Can we determine the size of these is rods from DS9?

Another problem for me is I can't find any gold tape. Chrome, sure, but gold? Nope.

Hey Sulla,
I use a product called Bare-Metal.
It is a very thin self adhesive backed tape. It comes on a 6 1/4" x 11 5/8" sheet. I get it from a local model-hobbies shop for around $10.
At present I have "Ultra Bright Chrome", "Real Copper" and "Gold".
There are some draw backs though.
It is extremely thin and you have to use a very sharp knife as it will tear if the blade is even slightly dull.
The color will come off with over handling. I found that out when I did one of Picard's repair tools from the butane pen torch. I put the metal foil tape on first then the black stripe tape around the tip. By the time I was done my palm sweet had made the color tape silver.
The last problem I have found is not really a problem unless you mess something up. The tape sticks so well that I had a major job of getting it off the torch when the color ran.
Hope that is helpful and I am sure if you do not have a local hobby shop or they do not sell it it can be found on line as feek61 suggested.

gold tape - I saw some gold tape at the local dollar store in the school supply section about a week ago. It was a small pack and there was gold, red, and silver in the same pack.
Let me know if your store doesn't have it and I MIGHT be able to pick you up and pack and mail it to you. Gotta warn you though... I am really really busy right about now, life has gotten crazy... just let me know.

Hey Darthgordon,
I checked the DS9 Tech Manual, if you have the book it's on page 40.
What you did not mention is there is a description as to there uses.

Class 1: subminiature storage devices.
Class 2: PADD type applications.
Class 3: standard console and access tunnel applications
Class 4: computer core storage.

That shows that the Class 3 would be the one used "on screen".
Which works out to 1/2" x 3 3/4".

Well, I just kinda figured that common sense would prevail

Ya it did but only after I hit the submit button :redface

Well I figure for anyone who does not own the book then they now know what designations are for.
It also answers Sulla's question! The Isoliner Rods in Quark's Holo-suite box are 3 3/4" tall.

Might be a long shot but could the box be some sort of medical case like a test tube or chemical storage container?

Got my 1/2" acrylic rod tonight. I sawed up a couple rods using my miter saw. One is 4" and the other is about 3 1/4". I don't have any gold tape yet, so I played around with my chrome:

M256 Kit carrying case maybe?

...maybe not. I remember seeing some kind of box in that shape and size in OD green... which means I must have seen it when I was in the army. Bah! My feeble memory fails me.

At this point, I think it might be best to just scratch-build the box.

Anyone got a clue what color that is in rattle-can? I'm thinking some kind of copper or gold metalic auto color.

Actually that one on the right looks really close. All it needs are some greeblies and paint. Although Quark's box appears to have slots for only 6 rods and that one looks like it has 10 compartments.

The color looks like copper with gold (on the top) and black accents to me.

Those rods are looking great Sulla!
The boxes look close but we may be looking for an obsolete model. If they are indeed medical supply containers that is.

Hi Guys,
Just saw this. I was at a Con.
As to the size well there were many sizes used but for that case it was 3 1/2 long and 1/2 inch dia. The case was scratch built out of acrylic.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Freakin' fantastic! I was hoping you'd chime in! You are my hero!

Two questions if I may be so imposing:
1. Were the little detail parts on the left side kitbashed like the Cardassian wall button panels?
2. Was there foam on the inside, plastic grid, something else, holding the rods in place?

Thanks again Mike.
