can we add "cop bashing" to the content ban?

every time i turn around on this forum people are bashing cops....and im sick and tired of seeing it....
the administration of this forum wont allow people to bash the military (and rightfully so) or bash the politicians (and rightfully so) or talk about or bash religious leaders (and again, rightfully so) yet, it constantly allows law enforcement to be verbally bashed....why?
and before you come off with the "you have no idea how hard it is to moderate this forum" stuff...i DO cause i WAS a mod on this forum back when wayne (propreplicator) was. we,as well as every other mod and admin got dropped in that big "RPF Reboot"....but anyway...the cop bashing needs to stop....as a cop, im sick of it. (yea, go ahead, tell me that "you took the job, thats part of it")

Cops are people too & sometimes they screw up.

They have a hard job & i appreciate them- even when I get a ticket.

In most cities, all over the world, the police have too much authority and power and they ACTIVELY ABUSE IT EVERYDAY. I feel it is important to give people a voice to document the abuses, or else we might as well all give up any semblance of human rights and agree to live ina police-state/dictatorship right now.

Mind you, you already consider the questioning of the military, the government and religion as improper, so I doubt anything I say will have any meaning. You might like to live under the jackboot, but I refuse to.

I come to the RPF to learn. To expand my knowledge about props and costumes, not to have idealogy rammed down my throat. I would assume that you to are here for a purpose, and that purpose is related to knowledge.

As part of my being here, I simply don't bother to read about topics that I disagree with. Those topics usually have nothing to do with props anyways, so I simply avoid the Off Topic forum as a regular place to visit.

So instead of insisting on yet another restriction to free speech and expression, why not do what several others here must do, and choose to ignore it, or simply agree to disagree?

We don't need more rules.

Would be nice if Off Topic General Discussion would not show up in "new posts" or the user could configure it custom for that option.

That way only new prop posts could be seen and it is up to forum members to go to the that area for off topic stuff if or when they feel like it.

I'm curious how people define "bashing?" Prop example: Let's say a company sends me a bad product. Is it ok to say, "Well, Company XYZ sent me a terrible product. I'll never buy from them again."

It's one thing to "bash" without any reason. It's another to have a reason and state your case.

I could be wrong but surely the rule of not discussing politics or religion are in the COC because they are topics relating to peoples personal choice or belief ? I don't see how the police fall under that catagory the COC makes no mention of the military either.
I dont see the recent topics as bashing cops either they always seem to be topics relating to a specific incident involving A police officer not the police force in general.
Police officers are as susceptible as every other human being are they not to behaving in a negative manner ? or are they immune somehow to human nature ?

Seems to me that a good number of the threads started as members sharing their bad experiences in thre OT section. Like the "I got into a car accident" or "This guy is a complete jerk!" or "Ebay stole my money!" etc. etc. ad infinitum.
Those kinda posts are real important to folks to help them vent. Just like the "My dog is sick" etc. threads are.
We, J.Q. Public should and do hold police to a higher standard that the rest of the boobs running around out there cause they're supposedto be the good guys, and when the good guys do bad things, who are we gonna turn to for good guys but each other?
So...it's particularly upsetting to folks when a person whom you're supposed to trust breaks that trust and uses the power vested in them to hurt, abuse and annoy. Worse probably than if it was just another civie.
Have that happen to you more than once, and you start to develop a prejudice and a purposeful mistrust.
So...the generalization, although can be a part of human nature depending on your experiences, that all or even most cops are bad most ofthe time is prejudicial (sp?).
But it shouldn't be banned content. Venting is good. And that's the benefit of like-minded individuals (like folks who love props) discussing things on forums.
In a huge place like this, especially in the OT...there are gonna be all kinda subsets of folks who don't believe what you do, and yep...may even offend you with those beliefs. As stated above by someone else. As I'm reading...if I start to see a buncha drek that I find stupid, annoying, insulting or otherwise uninteresting...I stop reading. And move on to a Lord of the Rings prop thread.:cool

Agreed. You wouldn't want to ban threads that start off with stuff like "my wife is in the hospital" so why would you want to ban "I just got in a car accident" or "I almost got arrested for minding my own business" or anything else? We're a diverse community and sometimes our membership needs to reach out for support. The fact that our opinions on things are massively diverse just spawns extensive conversation, not all of it pleasant but there you have it.

You are correct. What I was trying to refer to was the "bashing". It just gets old, no matter what side of the fence you are on. Both have legit points, yes, but when people start "yelling" at other people this way and that its just as heated as politics, thats all I am trying to say.

Not because they have come posting with badges flashing but because another member here has asked for assistance from law enforcement. Being cops, they do what they do all day long, respond.

Anytime any member is concerned with the level of respect in a thread - just PM a couple mods. First one signed on should catch the PM. You should be able to do this easily by clicking on the tag at the bottom of each post page "View Forum Leaders" It gives a list of moderators you can PM.

We need to get a "report post to mod" button working again if this forum software provides the option.

Yes i mentioned the COC in response to the comment stating that the forum do not allow discussions relating to politics,religion and the military it was an innacurate statement.
Other than that i agree entirely mutual respect is a good thing although i do not believe a police officer behaving wrongfully deserves any more respect than anyone else behaving badly simply because of their profession.
