Can I Rotocast over plasti dip?

I built a foam Ironman MkVI that came out pretty well, but I like the hard resin look. Can I Rotocast over my current costume or do I need to build another?

My concern is laying the Rotocast down over the painted PlastiDip.

make a separate test piece out of scrap foam, seal it like you did your suit, then rotocast over it and see what happens.

if it melts into a radioactive puddle, then build a new suit/rotocast (or try to peel off the plastidip)
if it doesnt melt into a radioactive puddle, then proceed to coat plastidipped foam suit,

lol

Rotocast is a technique, not a material so no you won't be able to.

Whether you can lay up a coating of resin depends on the kind of resin you have and whether it will adhere to the plasti-dip.

Plasti dip is likely to resist, and from experience flexible urethane will grip very well straight on to the foam. Epoxy resin is a bit.. eh, it will grip but usually won't.

You can though use the foam as a master or buck to lay fibreglass directly over and then remove the foam. It's a lot of work to then smooth and prep it for paint, but as you already have the suit fitted it's not as much work as if you were to start from scratch.

I was under the impression I could apply the resin over the foam (if it was unpainted/dipped) with a brush. Am I mistaken? Do I need actual molds?

I did it not too long ago. It got the job done but I wouldn't recommend it. I can already tell that the rotocast is more brittle. While the rotocast bit into the plasti dip, it didn't bite in as well as it would with a hobby glue or something.

With smaller items you can totally just paint it on and move the item around until the rotocast sets and lays flat.

I see. Sounds like my hope of doing a hard resin suit just died unless I want to make molds.

This is the best way to get it done>> All you need is a big jug of Elmer's hobby glue. You coat the foam in the hobby glue prior to applying the rotocast resin. XRobots uses Smooth on 65D in this video I think. That is the same type of resin that I used with the plasti-dip base.

So you have applied Rotocast 65d over PlastiDip?

I have. And it did not bite as much as it did into the hobby glue. It works... I would just have some serious doubts about how long it will last since it doesn't reach maximum adhesion.

Hmmm. Well my suit is actually painted so it would be over the Duplicolor, which is probably worse
