Hi Guys,

I am calling on all you experts out there to see if anyone can help me identify the maker and origins of this SFS screen used replica Stormtrooper helmet. :confused

All the details including the tube stripes are hand painted and the helmet itself is painted khaki/tan with white over the top and all the drips, chips and scratches have been meticulously recreated.:eek

I bought this off *bay a while back.:rolleyes

The first shot is a comparison shot with the original SFS Dave helmet on the left and mine on the right, the others are of my helmet from various angles. The helmet varies in colour on these shots due to lighting etc.

Whilst I am aware that this is probably a recast but I thought it had been done rather well and bought it anyway.:love

It is marked V28 on the inside.

I look forward to hearing from you all.(y)thumbsdown

Mark.

yes they could if they knew enough about trooper lids.........

Its an AP recast.. and it looks like the marking is "VT" in the helmet, just combined. Since cap sold his AP moulds to VT then I'd say its pretty certain

This is the thing I love about this board.

You could take 100 different buckets, and there's always at least a dozen or so people, who could tell you EXACTLY where each and every one of them came from.

That's why this board rules.

Thanks FON. That's great. Not being a recast but finding out who did it.
I pretty much knew it was a recast but I think he has done an outstanding job on it anyway.
Madrobot you're right , it's one hell of a great place to find out whats what in this game.

Thanks, I can now rest.

Just for the record is VT respected or not? His work seems very good.

hey skunky - just Nate from over from FISD. Agree it looks like a VT lid.

as you know, lots of the TK issues are mired in some muddy waters.

GINO - dont want to step on your (or any of the big boys with authorised molds) toes. so what I say here is purely my opinion rather than fact.

there are original fan sculpts - TM; and there are original derived recasts of screen used props which are 'legit' eg GINO, AP, TE/TE2

AFAIK VT's are considered 100%recast of TE. Ok ok - I know purist are gonna say all the screen accurate lids are recast, but VTs falls into the category of non-legit (ie no permission from original mold owner)

reports are VTs has worked a bit on the molds and that his stuff is well put together. but its recast nonetheless.

personally, I wouldnt have got it; but I am pretty hard line recasts. In fact I have often missed out on deals as have not been able to verify origins in time to snag an item before someone else does :(

apologies to board and veteran members - I know I am pretty new to this board, and may not know more details regarding VT himself. But as far as is he respected goes? My personal opinion would be - it doesnt matter how good his work is, I would not respect him purely based on the recasting issue.

at the moment - I would love a SA lid, but as I cant afford the asking prices, I am just doing without for now

Nate

I've not seen ONE original fan sculpt trooper helmet besides the FX or it's derivatives.

.

again - I am not a maker; just a simple collector.

but I am sure trooper master sculpted his own armour and lid. I mean there are several sources of TM armour, including starwarshelmets.com of course.

will investigate

but back to orignal thread - yes, VT lid. VT bad.

Like I said above, I've never seen an original sculpted trooper helmet besides the FX derivatives.

Since you mentioned it, ask Jez at SWhelmets.com if he believes TM's helmet is an original sculpt. I already know what he thinks.

I thought we saw pics of his sculpt...? All stages of it?

Been a few years, though. :unsure

I remember those pics. Looks nothing like what you see now.

Check this out. Angles aren't exactly the same and shape of the dome changes with assembly, but check out the face, bird's eye view never lies.

Of course the dome from the top is going to look different depending on the angle and the way the helmet was assembled.

Here is my helmet with just the slightest difference of angle and you can see a difference in the shape of the dome. The dome on the right looks a big narrower, but it's the same helmet.

Here's another comparison showing mine next to TM's. Still not the exact same angle but closer.
Mine is a stunt, his is a hero so there is some assembly difference.
Michelangelo couldn't have re-sculpted that close of a faceplate.

And if you think it's just me who believes this, ask Jez and Art (braks) what they think.
