Buying A Mannequin

There are a lot of Mannequin out there to choose from to display your suit or to use as a paint dummy.
I like this one pictured below the best for displaying. It has a wider leg spread so the crotch don't bunch upon the latex bottoms. The bad thing its hard to get your suit bottoms on do to the wide calves and feet.
Full Size Masculine Male Mannequin

This one is great pictured below to use for display and doing painting on. It has the butt and no legs so it is easy to put on and take off your suit bottoms. The bad part about most Mannequin is getting the feet that are sticking straight out to go throw the lower part of the legs, but not with this one. The bad thing about this one it has no head form for the mask. They do make them with a head but they usually have ridged arms.

Male Mannequin Dress Form

* Height adjustable, up & down, up to 6' high.
* 1 hole in bottom of the form

This one is ok pictured below if you don't have latex bottoms, but if you do the legs have a narrow spand and the bottoms will bunch up in the crotch. The bad thing is that it leans backwards and falls over easy.

Unless your a small Chinese man on crack this one just blows. It to skinny and it falls over free standing my ass. One plus the under arms have good spacing.

These Mannequins are "Free Standing" - they stand alone. HAHA not with a heavy pred suit

Measurements:

Height: 75 1/2 Inches.

Bust: 38 Inches.

Waist: 29 1/2 Inches.

Hips: 35 Inches.

Thanks for the great info, Scott. But what about prices?

On Ebay, the best, full-body mannequins usually run between $100-$150 with a shipping charge of around $50.

I'm not sure if it is much cheaper to make your own body cast if you include time AND materials. In the end, it kind of balances out for me. Since I rarely make costumes for myself, I'd go for a decent full-body mannequin like the first one Scott showed above. Generic, but can be padded out for larger sizes.

This reminds me that I have to look for some decent male mannequin arms for scultping on.

Thanks!!

You can get them off ebay cheap. The first picture one cost me about 150.00 shipped. The second one 3/4 cost me about 70.00 shipped. The Third one cost me about 130.00 shipped. The last one is just a joke and it cost me 100.00 shipped. I bought all these off Ebay

Mannequin pictured 2 is what the P2 suit is on. Mannequin pictured 3 is what the alien suit is on. I use mannequin pictured 1 for my build ups.

HEHE
Was thinking of making a transformer suit out of styrene, got the plans off the net to build one.
I redid one of those optimus helmets just recently and was thinking the same thing.Where did you see the plans for the armor if you don't mind me asking.Iwould love to do up a metal optimus suit.

Thought I'd chime in on this one too since I searched for a full Mannequin for months before I just gave up on it & made a Duct Tape Dummy w/ pvc tubes as an inner skeletal structure for little less than $20.

However, only a few days ago I hit the dummy JACKPOT while browsing through the "Free" thread on Craigslist.org & there I saw it, the ad said..."THREE FREE ADULT MALE MANNEQUINS AVAILABLE ON CURB AT...COME & GET 'EM"!!! Well, I raced over there at speeds faster than any Geo has ever gone b 4 & got there just in time to stake claim on the 2 Mannequins that remained as my very own!!!

I realize this was one of those extremely rare finds, but I have also seen posts on Craigslist in other areas offering mannequins for sale & every now & then, free. I live in a big college town (Madison, WI) so every year in mid-August the student's leases are up & they toss out anything & everything you can imagine to the curb. This annual event has been dubbed for several years now as "Hippie Christmas". It draws hundreds of people here for the largest curb score treasure hunt one could ever imagine possible! I look forward to it every year because it offers me the opportunity to collect hundreds of misc item for costume materials, as well as, dozens of other types of projects. As a matter of fact, many of the items I've used on my predator suit already have also come from this annual event!

So, for anyone who's in the market for, or would just like to get a Mannequin in the future but don't have the $100+ bucks to buy one online, I recommend you try posting up an ad on craigslist.org & see if anything turns up in your area. You never know, there are certainly many Mannequins out there & can usually be hard to find, but every now & then you just may get lucky!

You guys should also check your phone books for a used mannequin display store. I got a nice used female mannequin for $50.
