building a canopy for a viper MKII?

So, its my first attempt at building a ship model. It's going well, but the canopy that came with the kit wasn't even close to what it should look like. I tried last night to build a canopy using clear plastic sheet. Cut the parts, tried to glue them, etc. It came out the right shape and size, but is not sturdy and the glue made it a mess.

Anyone have any tips or tricks they can share for building one?

be very careful with it, and you can cover any discoloring of the glued areas with strip styrene for the actual frame of the canopy

that's the best advice I can give you on this one...
