Budget Planet of the Apes

Ok, had big plans to do accurate 'original' Planet Of The Apes costumes for halloween, but time and budget got in the way.

Still turned out Ok. I think, only 2 pics of the finished costumes though.

That still looks pretty darn good if you ask me! :) I do so love that movie.

How did the prosthetics wear? How did they feel and function on your face, I mean. I've seen some very similar and wondered.

Those weren't the foam Latex masks, they were from cheap ones that didn't hold that well. were sliding off from sweat by the end the night. If I do another Apes costume, will probable go for the Screamteam appliance.
And the wigs... well... a bit unruly..:lol

Oh! I missed this post! Neat to see another ape in town!!

There are actually TWO, :lol, Me in the Closeup as (a poor man's) Cornelius, and her a Zira.
Masks were Cinema Secret ones, not so good, thick latex, and wouldn't hold, after an hour or 2 of dancing the sweat made them start to slide off.. Not the Spirit Gum's fault, was the same we've used with Foam Latex Appliances with no problems.

I did a poor chimp's Zira, too. Next time I go in full ape gear I will use the foam latex I made and see how that goes.

it realy is the spirit gums fault to be honest it works better with foam due to foam being pourus but is still an awful adhesive. i would get hold of some prosaide or telesis beta bond much better for this stuff. spirit gum for most in the make up fx industry is a bygone product. also due to its solvent it realy isnt the best for the skin.

I've been dying to do one of these. Got any resources on where to find prosthetics? :cool

That would depend on the budget and time you will allot your project. Also, what type of ape are you considering? chimpanzee, orangutan, gorilla? This inquiring chimp would like to know!

Mostlydead.com has a few different chimp/ape foam latex prosthetics, screamteam.com has one, and as Jessica mentioned apemania has the higher priced, but more accurate ones.
