This is a commision for a member here that we thought people would like to see what the process was for finishing one. I started with a rotocast bucket with resin sides. We did a little sanding prior to primer and I will even include a couple unforseen mishaps that happenned on the way because this is not a perfect world so the road to perfection is somtimes lined with potholes.

That was a pretty painless effort to get it in primer. The cast was very nice:thumbsup.
Now onto a little paint

area taped stays red. Painting the black detail

That's stunning....fantastic work!!! Am sure the customer will be very happy....have always loved this helmet :)

I AM VERY HAPPY...wait till you see the later pics and what he does when confronted with some challenges...extremely talented.

Now is when the fun begins:cool. I had first planned on using the supplied decal for the lightning bolts and stripe tape for the red stripe. Well that got thrown out the window since the decals were incomplete. Usually I would have painted the graphic first then the white but since the decals were not correct painting them is the only option. Here is how that went:

red sprayed and taped

I had a little color bleed under the tape so I used a striping brush to straighten all my lines up where the tape failed.

There is one that got a little off slant.

Here is where I had a strange problem that luckily was fixed easily since I needed to sand it anyway before putting on more clear. On one side the black pinstripe just floated away. I have never seen this before but like I said it sort of fixed itself. The pics showing the repair will come later today.

Great paint and masking job. That's a tough job on a compound surface.

I am curious.

Why did you paint the whole helmet red, then tan, when you only needed the area around the "bolts"?

i love what you did here! the thing i always hated about the helmet in the series, is that it never seemed to fit some of the characters right. just a quirk of mine i suppose....
