BTTF Pepsi Bottle : Reboot

I'm dissapointed to see Rylo's BTTF Bottle project hit a snag. This will not be the place to discuss the outcome of that thread or any assumed motivations about the start of this one.

I'm now going to re-start my efforts towards producing a replica of this bottle.

My goals are as follows.

Vac-Formed Clear Pepsi Perfect Bottle w/ flip "straw"
Solid Translucent Resin Pepsi Perfect Bottle w/ flip "straw"
Solid Resin Diet Pepsi and Slice Bottles w/ flip "straws"
Heck, I may even make a Mountain Dew bottle just for S&G's :)

Towards that end I have secured a prototype bottle made for the production of the film.

Its numbers and shape match up well enough to the film. As such I have no reservations using this to generate a lathing plan to produce a replica. IF for some unforseen reason there is a variation between this and the final screen used bottles then I feel those differences will help to protect the value and intergrity of the originals.

I'm generating drawings now and will see about starting the tooling for these new replicas in very short order.

I will post here as the project progresses. When applicable any interest threads for these replicas will be started in the Junkyard. Until that time please refrain from contacting me with interest or questions about these replicas.

Yup, there will be a solvent seam along the sides of the bottle. However, I'm designing the Aluminum Vac-Tools to generate a near perfect butt edge between the two halves. That should minimize the visual impact of the seam. From the front, it would be near-invisible.

Short of ramping up production tooling to have them blowmolded there is no other way to do it.

Yeah, technically you would have a seam on a blowmolded bottle as well.

Not as pronounced, but it would be there.

I'll take one of each! (even the mountain dew. it is the nectar of the gods)

Great!

Are you interested in a MD label? I have been playing around with designs for several years and I might have a suitable jpg somewhere.

Sounds good...will these be sealed bottles?
Meaning...will the clear Pepsi Perfect be able to hold pepsi or something?

It SHOULD be able to hold liquid since it will be solvent seamed halves just like the actual prop. However, I'm not recommending it or doing it on my own replica. I'll just cast up a clear amber resin one if I want a "filled" look.

BTW, I have the lathing plans done as of last night. I'll try to spend some time today prepping a final file to send to the machinist.

I'll be doing two forms.

1. Vac Tooling for the clear bottles. The profile will be inset about 1/16" to copensate for the plastic. That way the final bottles should be almost identical in size to the solid cast ones

2. Solid Bottle Master. This will have the top already prepped for the straw mechanism. I'll also see about having the straw parts machined as well for molding. Each solid bottle will be made from three cast pieces

Sounds great! I'm really excited gor this one. Do you have any ideas yet for how much it might cost?

No idea on pricing whatsoever at this point. I just want to do it and do it right - I'll let the individual pricing work itself out afterwards.

Just to update on things. I'm still waiting on the final cad-work for the aluminum masters, but wanted to test some things out.
Soooo... I took a mold of my original (don't worry, I didn't damage it one bit) and made a new master mold to do solid castings.
They turned out pretty good and let me do a few tests or paint and detailing.

and after painting.

Still need to do some decal tests and will be updating then.

Yeah, I'll be doing a Mountain Dew just for fun :)

Really Looks amazing so far :thumbsup

I'm def in on one of these, can't wait :love

I'm going to do another test with Clear Coat and another with Future Floor Wax.

The Mountain Dew you see in the images above was hand polished with a plastic polishing compound. It did good on the surface but left polish deposits in some very fine pinholes on the surface, oops :)
