I was wondering, does anybody know what these are? It looks fairly cool xD Not sure if it's some sort of drink or?

Any ideas?

Hymm, MicroD seems like a name for a small version of a CD, but I dont know why it would be on display next to wedding pictures. That's just my guess of course.

Oh true, I read that as the MicroD The D was in the O and the V was in the O but now what your saying I have no clue. I am going to have to rewatch the whole future scene looking for another one of these.

I think they can be seen only at this area of the house, not sure if there are any more of them in the entire movie x)

Here are better screen caps:

I like the idea of a storage. The Micro D could be a data storage and the Micro V a video storage.

Oooh right, the V and the D are inside the O XD okay, mmmh, I wish I had a good picture of it, I wonder what are these lights and stuff... So do you think there are CD in these?

They look kind of can-shaped to me. Are those drinks glasses or vases/ornaments behind the Micro V?

I wonder if they're meant to be futuristic drinking vessels like the bottles from Cafe 80's?

However, a version of the BTTF2 script that I once downloaded says:

Jennifer goes to a bookcase and browses. On the shelf are a row of VID-BOOKS (a format yet to be invented). There is a prerecorded copy of “A MATCH MADE IN SPACE.” The other titles are handwritten and include:

“Wedding — Jennifer & Marty.”
“Family Vacations — 1995—2005.”
“George & Lorraine 50th Anniversary”
“The Kids: Marty, Jr. & Marlene — Vol. 1, 2, 3.”

She takes the one labeled “wedding” and opens it. Inside the cover is an LCD screen which starts playing back video tape of Marty and Jennifer walking down the aisle.

This didn't exactly make it into the film since Jennifer just looks at the picture frame for their wedding photo, but maybe they're related to this concept of storage like Roland suggests?

They look like a cylinder, tapered at each end, which has been covered in a pearlescent/holographic material, embedded in a cube of clear resin. The writing/logo appears to be on the outside of the cube.

They are similar (in a way) to a CD in that there is a metallic/pearlescent material embedded in clear plastic. These versions are 3D rather than a CD which is flat and 2D. I would guess that the inference is that these are futuristic CDs (data/video/music) storage devices.

not sure what they are but the shape looks like a see-through can of pop..... it would be nice to have a FULL set of the pics on the same table, not just the "chapel o love" pic.... made me wonder what the red and gray thing is on top of one of them..... interesting....

Following up on the theory that these might be Vid-Books there’s an iCollector auction with some prop design prints that include Vid-Photo Albums sketches:

So these Vid-Books don’t look anything like what we can see here but they could have changed during production.

Any idea what that thing is that’s lying flat next to the photo frames? It looks like it could be a DVD-sized jewel case. Perhaps that’s meant to be a Vid-Photo Album?

Whatever they are, they appear to be made of a solid block of clear acrylic. I think they are bored out. Perhaps laser-cut. Probably all accomplished from the bottom of the cube.

If you consider it, when clear acrylic is drilled, that section become translucent. So, if you bore into a cube of clear acrylic, that area will be frosted. Then, if you insert a strip of iridescent vinyl inside, cut to the circumference and height of the straight section of the cylinder, you're in business.

Contact Canal Plastics on Canal St in NYC. If anyone can make this from a solid block of acrylic, they can.

Why that complicated? Take a stack of a hundred CDs, put it into a clear plastic box and you're in business, too. ;)

I'd agree with this assessment. They look like a stacks of CD's to me. I remember you could buy small diameter blank CD's way back. These cylinders look about the same diameter; though I'm not sure exactly when they became available to buy off the shelf.

mm.

Do you think, it's as small as a gamecube disk? or even smaller? The only thing that bugs me is the conical ends, is that part of the inside box? Seems there are two box, the one that hold the disks in place and the outer and rectangular one.

I love these resurrected threads where everyone just picks up where it left off like it started yesterday.

I don't think it looks big enough to be CDs. I also don't think it even looks like CDs anyway, as it doesn't seem to have segments nor a top (i.e. it looks hollow), and I have a stack of CDs here and it doesn't really give that appearance, although I understand the thought. It literally just looks like a piece of holographic film rolled up and stuck in a container. Something like this (on the right):

Or maybe material left over from Marty's hat?

It would not be hard to make one. Unfortunately without more pics it would be challenging to make one that was screen accurate in size and dimensions.

Also, I came across this article:

http://www.kristensheley.com/bttf/future.html

Relevant quote:

After the hoverboard hijinks, Marty is then distracted by a newsstand robot who is displaying the news of the Cubs winning the World Series. Since this robot, "Bernie," is trying to sell him something, Marty asks him if he has anything with sports results between then and 1985 and the video screen plays a catchy commercial for Grey's Sports Almanac -- which has results from 1955 to 2014. There is also a choice of formats, all electronic: "Vid-Rom, CD-Rom, Mini-C, DDX, Micro-V, Micro-D."

Not that it helps with the prop, but it helps with the context.
