To verify and correct a few things:
The materials that the Warrior and bridge costumes were made of was suede cloth, but not a traditional suede cloth. The material used for Galactica had a uniform pile rather than the random fibers of most suede cloths.
Although Ultrasuede was invented in 1970, it was not used for Galactica.
But interestingly, I talked with the establishment that supplied the material for the production and the person involved swore that the material that was sold to the studio was Ultrasuede. He was very defensive about it, to the point that I felt like I had stumbled onto a cover-up. Made me wonder if the studio was charged for Ultrasuede ($40 / yard) but got suede cloth ($2 / yard). But I digress.
Initially, the brown, tan and blue materials were the same fabric, just different colors.
The brown and blue material remained the same throughout Battlestar and Galactica 1980, but along the way, they exhausted their supply of the tan material.
I've come across a couple of tunics from Battlestar Galactica where, although the material was almost identical in color, the material was slightly coarser and not as rich looking as the earlier tunics and pants. Either a different batch of material, or a material from another manufacturer, most likely the latter.
By Galactica 1980 they were using a tan gabardine type material with no pile. Any Galactica 1980 tunics of the original material were prior Battlestar tunics that were reassigned to G1980 actors.
The jacket shoulders were leather.
To my knowledge, all jackets were lined with rayon / acetate in addition to the internal materials to give the supple shell of the jackets body.
Tunics and pants were sometimes lined, sometimes not.
Brown capes were either lined and braided, or unlined without braid.
Blue capes were all lined and braided.
There were many types and widths of braids. The only one that remained consistent throughout both series were the silver checks.
The boots were initially brown. As the color wore off, they were retouched with other shades of brown and sometimes black.
All the Warrior's holsters are brown, not necessarily the same brown, but brown. Even for the Gamoray outfits. Even for the security guards. The only black holsters I've seen were brown ones that were repainted for another production. The one black holster used in the production was for Red Eye. None of the screen used holsters were made of brown plastic, all were painted.
The original concept sketch of the Warrior costume called for a "Steel grey gun belt and gun", but this is not what came to be.
The gun belts were custom dyed. What were they shooting for? Black, I think. But the dye job(s) ran the gamut from medium grey to dark grey. There is a hint of blue when you look at the belts. You can especially see it where grommets have been removed. White dyed black? Light blue dyed black? White dyed blue then black? I don't know. But they ended up grey with a hint of blue. I've had probably 15 or 20 belts over the years and not many were exactly alike. I've got five here right now and the color is all over the place. But I wouldn't call any of them blue. Maybe faded black, or grey, or dark grey, or steel grey. Wait a minute... Steel grey. Hmmm...
As I think of how the belts have come to have this diversity of color, I think that they may have been like this from the start. Because the gun belts would not be something that would normally be dry cleaned, that could not be a contributing factor of fading. Would they have faded from being worn around? I doubt it. If that were so, the belts would be lighter on the inside because that is where all the rubbing would be, but the five belts I have here are consistent on both sides.
Hopefully that clears up some of the misinformation.
