Browning M1919 WIP

So this is my first scratch build and first of my prop posts here on the RPF. I recently replaced my rotary tool after it died and wanted to try it out. i thought killbucket's m1919 was a good place to start. Since funds for this are minimal i decided to use a men at work sign.

Dont have a Jigsaw or anything yet so everything has been cut with rotary.

the sign had a curve to it i couldnt flatten out with heat so i used old jenga blocks and scrap wood to brace it and get it as square as i could

Bit of filling (squadron white) and glued some hard board sheets together to make the top door.

made a latch out of hardboard, more filling and sanding i decided to put a coat of matt black on to see where im at

decided to slot barrel in (made out of hoover tube) and slap some bullets on (not .30 cal, 7.62 Nato all i had) and took some pics. still needs finishing off, more filler, more paint, pistol grip and trigger still to do but i like it so far.

Sorry for pic quality. only had mobile to hand while i was working. yes my workshop is my kitchen and my bench is my tumble dryer lol

You can keep the 7.62 on the M1919. In Vietnam the Navy had a few M1919s converted to fire the 7.62 that they put on the PBR boats. That way if anything happened the 7.62 could be salvaged for M14, or M60. Can't wait to see what's in store for the future.

not much has been happening on this project in ages, gonna start working on it again next week possibly may make it fire bb's too.... This is the first of a few diff heavy weapons I'm going to be making. Thanks devil dog nice to know i can keep the nato's, wanted to use them for ages, didn't research it. Anyone else going to be making one? or any guns? Always interested in looking at new gun designs

Hey no problem on the information. Military knowledge is a strong point for me. Grandfather was in the Marine Corps during WWII, and my father was in the Marine Corps during Vietnam. I tried to join, but long story of recruiter lies. So I study Military, and try to reenact as much as I can. Any other questions in the future don't hesitate to ask. Keep up the great work on the Machine Gun. I was thinking of doing the m1919 as we spoke about last night. I'm thinking on a M79 grenade launcher.

the blooper m79 is a cool launcher and i've kinda wanted one for a while but after i saw a guy on here make the china lake launcher im tempted to go that root now, looks a lot harder tho

I love the M79, because that's the weapon my dad carried in Vietnam. The China Lake is a cool visual, but it was horrible in the field. Didn't work out too well after a few months in service. A lot of units kept the M79, and the ones that got the China said, ''Give me back my M79''. I'm sure if you just think of you CL as a shotgun body, and not a grenade launcher you could get it easier. With the body work, and mechanisms.

No, that credit goes to an artist named Kent Draeger. I was just collecting reference for it as the weapons lead, and reminding him not to include the 7.62 stamp because we were doing the WW2 version.

Yes, this was on CoD WaW. I was both the weapons and the vehicles art lead on that title. I guess it was still a cool enough job, but I would always rather be doing more of the art myself, and less of the management and being in meetings all the time.

Hunting down reference materials was always fun, though. We organized weapon shoot trips to accomodate multiple departments. I could shoot lots of reference pics for my department, the audio department would make audio recordings of the guns being fired, and we would shoot videos for the animation department. Good times!

Anyway, back on topic... I've still got all my reference materials. Just let me know if you need anything.

I've been in the biz for 17+ years. I can't imagine what else I could possibly do!

I left Call of Duty behind when I resigned during the development of Black Ops. I was still credited on Black Ops, as a fair amount of my work was used. I got really burned out on the big corporate big budget thing over the years, and I was losing interest with the direction the CoD franchise was going, so I went indie with a group of friends and colleagues who had formed a new independent studio.

It's been a lot of fun, doing the indie thing. It is great to enjoy your work, trust the people you work with, have integrity, and be able to sleep at night and all that. I do miss that part with all the money though! We're just wrapping up an iPad title that is our first foray into the mobile gaming scene.

Enough about me, though. I certainly didn't mean to derail the thread. I just thought this was a cool project, and wanted to pitch in my experience with the 7.62 NATO variant. Any plans for a bipod or tripod mount, or the shoulder stock? The gun I had for reference had the detachable sheetmetal shoulder stock, so I've got plenty of pics of that. You could always wrap some cheese cloth around the barrel shroud as a makeshift grip, and carry it like a badass!
