Brave (Post-release)

I thought Brave was entertaining enough but far from Pixar's best. As soon as the Queen turned into the bear I lost interest except for the animation. I found the three big headed little bears far more entertaining than the main story after the sudden plot turn.

Reminds me of how I lost interest in Up as soon as the talking dogs showed up.

I guess you missed those parts where Elinor went "bear"? The whole point of the change wasn't just that she would be stuck in the shape of a bear but actually become a bear in body and mind, that's where the sense of real urgency came from.

And as I said, I felt that bit was tacked on. The witch didn't mention it and the characters didn't delve that much into it. I'm not saying it wouldn't have worked, the story just needed more emphasis on it. For example, rather rushing to break than the spell before she permanently becomes a bear, it should have been that over time she will soon totally lose herself as a bear to the point where bringing her back wouldn't do any good.

Except that doesn't give them a ticking clock to race against. More tension that way than just "oh, she could go at any minute." You have the distinct moment of the sun coming up and it's just "crap, we're too late" but then it's okay. No different than defusing a bomb with a second to spare, it's a different kind of tension if you have no idea when it detonates.

In comparison to Pixar's previous films Brave isn't groundbreaking in terms of unique story, but it's still a really good fun film. Gorgeous animation and oh that lovely orange hair. And gotta applaud Pixar's decision to keep the second act under wraps during marketing, took me quite by surprise (I had only seen one trailer, don't know about the rest). Very rarely we get to experience that with big movies these days.

I was totally engrossed in the film and forgot to spot the Pizza Planet Truck easter egg. Also found out now that there was a post-credits scene which I missed, though it wasn't anything big.

You don't stay to the end of the credits of every movie?

For shame, should revoke your Staff credit for that!!! :lol

How would you know if you missed it? RPF, Revoke this man's staff status. He has disrespected those who have worked on the film and has judged something without even seeing it. I do not wish to have a member of your staff run things off of ignorance!

Haha.. guilty this time :$, had to head out to another place in a hurry. But I usually do stick around till the end of credits for most movies and not just for post-credits scenes. I stay as a sign of respect to all the people who made the film possible and it's interesting to see some of the familiar big names who work behind the scenes. Also for the musical score which is always a treat.

I read about the scene online after watching the film.

Agreed, both great tracks especially "Touch The Sky".

BTW with my comment ("though it wasn't anything big") earlier, I meant that the scene didn't turn out to be some major plot reveal or twist, since it was a funny moment instead.

I wasn't sure if Jeyl was joking or was really serious and angry about my actions. So I tried to confirm it, he then mentioned that he was just poking fun at me, now I feel stupid for not figuring it out earlier :lol. The angry emoticon was the curve ball.

I read some on this and I'm still fuzzzzzzzy.... :confused

Was she NOT doing a good job on Brave
or what ? All I read was there was supposed to be
a certain " direction " Brave was to go in and it went
in another.. So, was HERS the one on screen, or the
other guys ?

i loved the first half of the film, strong emotional beats, beautiful. The 2nd half of the film i was extremely disappointed to see the film devolve into "Brother Bear." - it had the witch, the salmon fishing scene, even the big boss battle with the evil old bear at the end. All that was missing was bob and doug mckenzie as the moose.

Totally...

I have no idea. I really want to hear the real story behind this one.

Overall, I liked the film, it just wasn't quite what I was expecting from Pixar. Much more traditional Disney (not a bad thing by any means, just not what I was expecting, so it kind of threw me off a little).
